Re: Cozaar and Calcium Channel Blockers

I have had high blood pressure for about 7 years, and have taken a multitude of different meds. I have taken two different CCBs Adalat 60mg and Norvasc 10mg. The Adalat gave me a constant cough for 3 years and I finally had to change Drs to get off of it as the Dr didn't believe it cause a cough for so long. Norvasc caused me to retain water. Cozaar didn't cause any problems but it didn't lower my pressure by much. I'm now taken Avalide 300/25 and Toprol 50 mg. My blood pressure has finally coming down after 3 months of switching drugs. Its been runnning 135/85 in the morning and 128/75 in the evening. I also stopped taking Vitorin 10/20 the last 2 weeks and think this has helped. I didn't tell the dr yet.

Re: Cozaar and Calcium Channel Blockers

The ccb my mom takes is verapamil 240 and it is quite inexpensive. She was taking 120 mg of verapamil with clonidine .01 3 or 54 x daily. Today, the dr. prescribed clonidine .02 3x day and 240 mg. We just took her bp and it was 120/70. The only side effect she had with verapamil was a slight headache and swelling ankles. That lasted for a few days in the beginning, but she takes a diuretic on those days.

Clonidine can cause drowsiness, but it lowers bp within 15 minutes and it helps her to sleep better at nite. Oh yes, verapamil also caused her nightmares at nite in the beginning.

Re: Cozaar and Calcium Channel Blockers

I tried Cozaar 50 mg and I couldn't take it for more than few days. It was killing my energy levels and making me sleepy and tired all the day long, I couldn't live with that. My father takes Cozaar and he likes it so everyone is different. I started a CCB called Diltiazem 120 SR (twice a day) a year ago and I don't have any side effects from it at this dosage.
Good Luck,
Michael
