Re: what happens if

Loreim,

I switched to Clonazepam (Klonopin) from Valium and was fine, but I wasn't taking it as long as you have been, nor did I need on it for the same thing. I take it for anxiety. However, I also have mild tremors and for that the Dr. gave me Inderal (Propranolol) 10mg daily. I think it's a wonder drug for tremors! It's been a while since I've researched any of the RX's I'm on, but I think the Inderal is a beta-blocker and also helps with my racing heart. It's not habit-forming at all but, like any of these drugs, you shouldn't stop it suddenly. It was originally meant for people with migraines, so some may know the name regarding pain management. I just wanted to add my two cents about the Inderal and my experience with the Klonopin. Another thing to add, I do have an addictive personality, being previuosly addicted to Vicodin for a few years, and I do have to say that I find nothing addicting (for me) within either drug; although the Klonopin info does warn you of it and others have posted an addiction to it. But again, I read that you shouldn't stop either suddenly so that you don't experience any physical problems.

I don't know why you Dr. is making the switch, but like the previous post says, of course you have the right to speak up, ask questions, and be involved in the decision of your treatment. Look on the internet for more information, bring printouts to your doc of what you find, what concerns you have, and make him/her aware that you aren't just going to sit by and do whatever they say. You may find they are correct, but it's better to be educated so you know what to question. I hope you find this info helpful..there are so many drugs out there, and these docs just cannot keep up, especially since they do not suffer from the same things their patients do, so we have to rely on others that do understand for information. I understand what that's like, so I wish you all the best with this.

Re: what happens if

have you actually even tried this yet?if not, maybe you should just give it a try and see how things go with it.if it doesn't work,THEN bring it up as a very real issue for you.but not actually trying it and complaining to him right away, well he may see you as a "difficult' patient when you are just afraid of trying a new combo of meds here that would be a bit scarey for anyone who has been taking any particular drug for as long as you have.

just explain to him your very real fears of trying a new med when the other has worked so well for you.a bit of anxiety would be expected in this situation with any patient with just about any drug.since this is a new doc,you just need to both get on the same page here since you had trouble even finding this one.you just don't want to start off on the wrong foot.just be totally honest with him about your feelings and why.but i really see nothing wrong with at least giving this a shot.who knows,it could work even better?you just never know how things will work til you try it.once you have, well if things don't work out, then talk to him about going back onto the med that did.

but your feelings under the circumstances would totally be normal.i have been on the same exact migrane med since it was the very first actual migrane med to hit the market way back in the 80's,my doc wanted to switch me to some of the newer ones but since this one has always worked extremely well for me,i saw no real reason to actually change it to something i had no idea would work.we decided to do it my way(luckily i have a great primary doc).i saw no real reason to change something that was working well for me.i really do know how you feel.hopefully this doc will be at least open to the idea of you staying on the valium once you have tried it HIS way and it may not work as well.some docs are just very hard headed and you have to proove to them that a particular treatment didn't work before they will actually change their minds.its stupid, but you are dealing with mostly 'egos' in these types of situations.

hopefully one way or another, your overall health and the good effects you are now getting will stay that way with whatever happens.i wish you luck with this.please let us know how things are going.Marcia
