Question Anomolous origin of the right coronary artery

Hi, I've been recently diagnosed with this rare heart disorder. There's not much out there on the subject. It's an adjustment mentally and physically. I would appreciate hearing from someone with this heart problem if there is anyone out there with it. Could definately use some info. Thank you.

Re: Anomolous origin of the right coronary artery

Miranda,

Where does your originate? I think it is most serious when the RCA comes off the Pulmonary artery but it can also sprout directly from the heart.
The norm is for it to originate in the ascending aorta.

Are they planning a surgery? Does it cause you symptoms?

(I doubt you will find anyone here who actually HAS the condition.)

Surgical results are usually very good but it IS open heart surgery.

Re: Anomolous origin of the right coronary artery

Lenin,
Thank you for your reply. It originates from the left coronary sinus. The sypmtoms that brought me to the Dr. to begin with actually don't have anything to do with this, so I would have to so no to any symptoms.

I have no plans for surgery right now since the artery is in good condition.
I'm on propranolol to keep my heart rate and blood pressure down and will
see how I do in 3 months.

You seem to at least have heard of this. It's definately an adjustment.

Well like I said, coming from the heart is FAR less of a problem than sharing the pulmonary artery. It's the latter condition that causes all kinds of backflow and breathing problems.

I'm glad it causes no symptoms for you.

Here's an interesting case study but this guy was getting dizzy and fainting (from the nih.gov):

Re: Anomolous origin of the right coronary artery

That is one of the few articles I've found. I actually printed it out and took it with me to the cardiologist. I said I didn't have any sypmtoms, but yes, I did have the feeling of passing out. The cardiologist still did not think it was
related to the heart condition, but it seems that patients with this had this in common. Beta Blocker has helped alot with the feeling of passing out. The dizziness I believe is from the med Zetia, for me anyway.

Do you have any experience with beta blockers? I'm finding more of a problem breathing now that i am on a full dose (25mg) than when i started with half the dose. I'm wondering if this is something that passes when first starting with a BB? Also, I read that they can make syptoms of emphysema worse, so I'm not sure what's causing the breathing problem.

Any insight on BB would be appreciated. Thank you!
