Re: Has anyone tried Singulair?

hi, well my gi doc says he thinks it could be an allergy that is causing the sore throat (officially called eosinophilic esophagitis) and that could be causing some reflux. so thus the singulair to reduce the inflammation. if you are on singulair already plus the prevacid - do you think maybe you don't need the prevacid? have you ever tried stopping it to see if the singulair alone is enough?

Re: Has anyone tried Singulair?

I was on the Singulair first. It was prescribed for my Asthma as well as my allergies. I was also on Allegra-D, Flonase and Astelin for my allergies. (I already finished a round of immunotherapy prior to going on the Singulair.) It was about a year later that I was also diagnosed with the acid problem. I had a PH test to confirm it. That was when I went on the double dose PPI.

The combination of treatments helps me because the asthma and acid problems seem to aggrevate each other. Whenever I have problems with one, it sets off problems with the other. The dual treatment helps me get them under control together.

By the way, I have the same symptom for both conditions---a chronic dry cough.

Re: Has anyone tried Singulair?

thanks for explaining that. i don't have a cough or anything - just a persistant sore throat and esophageal spasms. sometimes i have a bad burning in my chest. i am going to try the singulair and see if it helps. the ppi's i tried few months ago seemed to make things worse. i'll report back in a couple weeks. i am going out of town tomorrow for 2 weeks. take care and be pain-free. every problem has a reason. I trust that the LPR mystery Will be solved soon.

I personally notice no side effects from singulair. It's an anti-inflammatory, so I can see how it would help with esophagitis.

I wouldn't recommend singular instead of prevacid, since they do totally different things.
