poorly controlled asthma

Hi Everyone

I am a married, 46 year old mother of 2 children who has had asthma for almost ll years. The first six years of having asthma I had afew problems a year. Since moving about an hour west of where I was living I have had several visits and admissions to hospital each year for the last 5 years. I have developed acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome and a slight vocal cord dysfunction. The breathing tests show that I have mild asthma. All the doctors say that all the medical problems make the asthma worse. I have had other opinions and am seeking another opionion because I find my asthma makes me sick so much it effects what I can do. I take advair 500-50flovent 500, atrovent when needed, ventalin when needed, flonase, reactine for allergies and prednisone quite often. I am fed up with asthma and why I have so many attacks.

Re: poorly controlled asthma

You might want to ask about drugs for GERD, since you say you already have it and it is also a side effect of the Advair. My doctor has me on Aciphex and it really helps.

Re: poorly controlled asthma

Maybe you just need to adjust your dosages. Typically if I start having problems, I add a puff of flovent to my daily regimen. That was on the advice of my doctor so be sure to ask yours first.

Re: poorly controlled asthma

Hi Titchou

Thanks for your comments. I do have an action plan but lately it seems to take more than extra flovent to keep me out of trouble. I usually need prednisone and maximum reliever inhalers and sometimes hospital visits or admissions.

Stay well.
