Re: Nasal steroids etc

My allergy specialist just put me on Nasacort, Rhinocort etc.. for a severe sinus infection but he wants me to stay on the spray for a long time. I feel much better on it along with my weekly allergy injections. My husband has been on the spray for a few years and he swears by it and he had always been proned to bronchitis but sense taking it he has never had a problem with it again. The only thing is it is very expensive even with insurance coverage.

Re: Nasal steroids etc

Thanks to both of you and that makes sense titchou about it not going into our systems since we don't swallow it. It sure does get expensive too even with ins hypo. It seems like just as soon as the drug is on my formulary sp?? is when it stops working for me and I need to get on one that is barely covered.

Actually, one of the fastest ways of getting medications and drugs into one's system is through the nose. Cocaine is an example. There is an effective blood supply in the nasal membranes, and delivery of medications through the nose gives a fast rate of absorption with rapid onset of action.

You don't have to swallow a medication to get it into your system. An example of this is the nicotine patch, or birth control patches, which have delivery methods through the skin.

Re: Nasal steroids etc

I won't use the steriod nasal sprays. I use the saline nose spray...........it's all natural and besides that, steriod nasal sprays are not good for you.........they really knock your immune system down.........doctors don't tell you that, but they do.......try the saline, you'll be amazed how much they help.

I've used the steriod nasal and asthma inhalers for many, many years. They are GREAT! My sinuses feel great. My asthma is under control. They were amazing medical breakthroughs.

The old asthma meds, like marax, were nasty! They worked but they drove me up the wall. They made me feel depressed, anxious and like a psycho! I went through years of miserable sinuses, prior to the steriod nasal sprays. They made a tremendous difference in my quality of life.

Where did you get your information about the steriods being so harmful to the immune system?
