Re: Tylenon PM?

Hi use benadryl over the tylenol pm if you HAVE to use either, like the others stated why take it without pain. Also prolonged use of acetaminophen can cause liver damage "higher dosages"especially when using other pain releivers as well as alcohol. From personal experience try to bare with the insomnia, sleep meds are "addictive!!" and taking meds for sleep has a rebound effect in the long run, it leads you right back to insomnia but worse. It is a natural process for our bodies to sleep unless there is a physical or mental disturbance causing chronic insomnia.Try to do it the natural way, cut out caffine, nicotine, exercise relax, warm baths, music, read ect....

I get small headaches very frequently. What I mean by that is I get headaches where I feel small aches on my forehead and the front side of the head. So really both may not be a bad idea.

I dont drink coffee much (not a coffee drinker), I dont smoke, I only drink socially, I listen to music I enjoy..and I excercise (and am in good shape) I just cant fall asleep during the day no matter what.

My concern stems from my last two doctor visits. The last two times I've gone to the doctor, I've had high blood pressure. The doctors haven't made much of a deal, since both of those cases I had some sort of infection. However, my concern is that this could increase it more.

Personally, I dont feel my stress is in any more then most people. I can sleep perfectly fine during night, and in general, I am not depressed. (though I have stress in my life)

Re: Tylenon PM?

Hi, my sleep troubles began years ago after high school when I landed a great job but it was night shift,I just could not sleep so I began using otc sleep aids.I just was not a day sleeper!! I screwed up by taking the sleep aids, after several years I went to days but realized I was still unable to sleep without meds.It took me years to get my sleep straight and now 15 years later I still have sleep troubles but med free.Try to wait several hours to unwind before sleep, use dark blinds, a fan for white noise, it takes a while for our biological clock to adjust for lifestyle changes,so give it time.Doctors hesitate to prescribe sleep meds for there addictive nature as well as the OTC.

You should know that heart patients who have been through open-heart surgery are advised to use Tylenol over Advil (ibuprofen) or Aleve (naproxen) because it doesn't not exacerbate high blood pressure problems. Advil and Aleve and their generics are known to cause elevated blood pressure. However, Tylenol is not.

As for your sleep problems, you might want to try valerian root extract in pill form, available at health food stores. I used to use Tylenol PM to get to sleep, but it made me feel loopy when I woke up. I switched to valerian and it's much better. It stinks when you open the bottle, and don't let your cats get near it because it's like catnip to them. But it works really well for calming and sleep problems. Make sure to get the root extract pill and not just the root. I find the root extract is more concentrated and seems to work better.

My grandma swears by it and so does my boyfriend. I started using it and it's great. Not habit forming like the drugs you buy at the store. It's a natural herb that has been around forever. It's perfectly safe. If you don't believe me, do some research on it and ask the health food store people. It's great stuff!

Re: Tylenon PM?

Well, since we are walking down the aisle at the health food store, try melatonin, too. It actually works by regulating the hormone that helps you set your circadian rhythms (sleep/wake cycle).

Good stuff.
