Wink Some thoughts from my experiences

Good morning everyone

I just was looking at this board this morning, I belong to another board. My 10yr old son was born with asthma, ezcema and a heart murmer. These two conditions go hand in hand. I am happy to say that he is under control, one hospitalization this fall, and only two ER visits in the spring.

He is on 10mg a day of singular, (tried 5mg not strong enough), 125mg of Hydroxine (antihistamine), flovent, flonase, and ventolin. Now he only takes his pills everyday of his life and now (finally) the puffers are only needed at the bad times. Colds, spring and fall for allergies. I read here today that people have found they have food allergies. They never did test Justin for food allergies, but he is allergic to the whole world outside these doors!!!

But we know now, so he doesn't play outside when it is windy, in the spring time he can only go out for short times and it has to be no wind or he is in trouble in seconds. Scary business you people have to live with.

But the lord only gives us what we can handle and what makes us stronger. So much so that my 10yr old helps a little girl in his grade 1 buddy class, with her asthma, because he said it feels better when you help someone else, makes you forget how sick he is.!!!! What a kid, love him to pieces!!!!!

Anyway I am a sympathatic ear, and have done a lot of research and asked a lot questions of Justin's 5 specialists and 1 GP!

God Bless you all

My 5 year old has asthma, and I never really thought about food allergies until recently. I decided to try to be a little more health concious and I fixed brown rice one night with our dinner. Two bites into the rice my son started wheezing and coughing. (I could tell by the look on his face with his first bite that he didn't like the taste, so I'm sure he's happy that he never has to eat it again-LOL.) But it makes sense. If he's allergic to plants and grasses, well a lot of food IS plants and grasses.

Re: Some thoughts from my experiences

Your stories are exactly like mine when I was a child. I was told all the environmental allergies and no foods. I was put on different medications over the years with varying results. I used to react very strongly to dust, mold, grasses, pollen, fur, you name it. Eating properly for me has changed all of this as well because I am taking care of the underlying cause.
Dairy and wheat are very common allergens also peanuts. mostly (except for peanuts for a lot of folks) these do not cause anaphylactic shock but they contribute to the wheezing, chest tightness, mucous buildup and so on. eventually to many other problems like acid reflux, chronic sinus problems and bronchitis. If its bad enough, COPD as the lungs become damaged over time. All these things take their toll eventually on the body as it is not designed to be in a constant state of inflammation.

Food allergies can manifest in many different ways, sometimes through asthma and allergies, sometimes through behavioral issues, sometimes through digestive troubles. It is one of the areas where conventional medicine is not typically very comfortable and people are often not even tested for them. if they are they use a scratch test for a couple of things which is not very reliable. A blood test is what should be done. if that not a possibillity an elimination diet can help. Start with the most likely offenders like wheat and dairy and see from there.
Paper, you said Justin was never tested for food allergies. It would be worth your while to give it a try esp as he has the other issues and he is so young and sounds like a real sweet kid.
Its not frightening knowing you're allergic to food, its not knowing if you are.
cheers, GB

Re: Some thoughts from my experiences

I should have Justin tested for food allergies. GB do you also have skin problems or did you before changing you diet. Justin has had Chronic ezema since the day he was born, at bad times, SPRING FALL and sometimes summer we do body wraps on him with his ointments that help but poor dude never has a day in his live that he feels comfortable in his own skin.

Interesting enough my thyroid condition brought me to these boards, they are starting to think that my problems may have started when I delivered this little boy. As he conditions are there and that is when my body really started to change/But now they have escalated. Taking over the mind as well!!!!! I don't know, does it make sense, kindof but I really don't know what think.

Re: Some thoughts from my experiences

Hi, I didn't have eczema but know people who did. I used to get rashes from some things that touched my skin like nickel in jewellery and certain plants and cat saliva that sort of thing.
The rash from nickel I still do get but not as badly so I can't say for certain if the eczema would go away with diet but I suspect it would at least improve. If I find anything else out I'll add it on. best of luck with all your issues. GB
