Any meds that help with derealization...??

I hate feeling like nothing makes me happy or excited, or that I am living in a dream world. It is so hard to go on like this with my kids watching, I want to be happy for them, truly happy!
Has anyone had a good experience with meds that halp with this problem?
ANy advice is appreciated. I take Paxil and Xanax/Klonopin now.
THanks!

Re: Any meds that help with derealization...??

It's all trial and error, I'm afraid. Imipramine got rid of it for me years ago, but didn't work a second time. Then Lexapro got rid of it about 80%. Those were the only ones that really worked for me. Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft, Cymbalta, Nardil, etc didn't do a thing. Oh, klonopin helped a little bit, but I had to keep increasing the dose and that freaked me out so I quit taking it. Who knows, maybe I needed like 5 or 6 mgs. As soon as I got to 2 mgs I said, that's enough, I need to get off.
I've been on Wellbutrin for a few weeks, but I'm going to give it 8 weeks before I make a decision. My doctor also has me on the generic Serzone (hasn't done a thing), Lyrica (ditto), and is going to add Cytomel in a few weeks. We're also considering the generic Luvox and Lithium.
Sorry I wish there was a magic pill.
hang in there...

Re: Any meds that help with derealization...??

Hi Brooke thank you for the reply. Do you suffer from depression as well? Lately I think my depression is overtaking my anxiety. It's so hard to deal with it. I too just keep increasing meds dosage and it freeks me out. I'm up to 2mg a day of Xanax which I hate because it makes me dizzy when it wears off. I have tried Lexapro in the past and just tried Effexor but got bad headaches. Maybe I'll give Lexapro another shot..... The Paxil is just not cutting it for me and I want off of it rather then increasing it.
The withdrawls are terrible.
I just hate feeling so emotionless (well unless I'm crying), just never happy.

Re: Any meds that help with derealization...??

Yes, I am in a major depression right now. I really don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Nothing makes me happy. I'm also anxious which adds fuel to the fire. I'm basically just trying to survive (i'm certainly not living). The only reason I'm here is because of my son. I had him 3 years ago and that's when things got really bad. I was coping ok before that, but staying at home all of these years (I used to work before) and thinking about how I'm feeling just made things worse. Now I'm in a deep hole and it continues to get worse, not better. I need Wellbutrin to work, or help a little bit.
I feel your pain because I'm living it too.

Re: Any meds that help with derealization...??

Brooke we do sound alike...I have 2 kids and basically that is the only thing that keeps me kind of going.
It was weird, it was as if 4 months ago I was fine (well always had anxiety but not this depressed) and then someone flicked a switch and *POW* I was at rock bottom! Nothing specific triggered it.
I envy people who are normal...I just wonder what it is like to feel that way.
