arthritis in feet

I have arthritis in hands, hips, & knees. I've noticed lately my feet have been hurting much worse than usual. I'm 63 & still trying to walk a little maybe 1/2 mi daily for exercise. I noticed after my last walk my feet were hurting & just happen to notice I now have a knot/bone protrusion on the outside of each foot. I do have flat feet but never noticed this b/4. Is this caused from arthritis? Thanks.

Re: arthritis in feet

Dear Sammi2

I have Psoriatic Arthritis, diagnosed two years ago. It is in my fingers, wrists, elbows, chest bone, spine, knees, ankles and toes. My toes are extremely painful and i only have to walk a few feet and they dislocate, they then bruise, and hurt for days. I am on Arava (Leflunomide), Diclofenac, Propanolol, and Omezaprole (for stomach). The drugs are DMARDS and strong and cause many side effects, and I am waiting forthe arthritis to subside. If you have had Psoriassis at any point in time, you may have this form of arthritis. It is very frustrating, I feell ill a lot of the time, and I hate it. I am 49 now and find slowing down very annoying. If you have any further questions please ask.

Re: arthritis in feet

I was diagnosed with it in my feet a few months ago, but had been in major pain for years. I have it in other places too, but my feet are by far the worst. It has caused the bones in my toe joints to degenerate. I am on Relafin but do not get much relief from that. A few weeks ago my podiatrist gave me an injection of cortisone in the toe joint of the right foot and since then I have noticed that the entire foot feels much better. He also had me get arch supports for my shoes and told me to wear Nike Walkers. These have not brought me tremendous relief (only the cortisone seems to have done that) but my feet do feel better than they did since I started wearing them. You might want to check with a foot doctor since all they deal with is the feet. This is where I have gotten the most helpful advice and relief for my arthritis of the feet.

Re: arthritis in feet

Sammi2......you mentioned that you have a bone protrusioon the outside of the foot.....usually if there is going to be a bone
sticking out it will be a bunion that is on the inside of the foot
down from your bifg toe joint....i am a dancer and i have
osteoarthritis in my feet as well as everywhere else! I am 61.
I have arthritis in the joints of my toes from years of ballet and pointe work.....the big bump on the side of the foot is ugly but does not hurt. Yes arthritis is painful but a hot soak
and exercise and foot exercises and massage are all good for
this. Karen
