Unhappy Spent 5 days in Hospital many symptoms no answer

I am in need of some help. I was admitted to the hospital with severe abdominal pain, nausea and a fever of 102.5 I was kept for 5 days and released with no answer but a bottle of percocet to keep the abdominal pain under control. They did an ultrasound where the doctor thinks she saw some sludge around the gallbladder, but "wasn't sure" then I had a CT scan where they said my large intestine looked a little inflamed as well as the colon. But nothing more was ever said about that. For the next 5 days in the hospital I had to have a shot of demeral every 2 hours as the pain was so bad. If I lay down flat on my back it subsides but the second I move to roll over or sit up or get out of bed the pain in debilitating. It is so bad that at times it has made me vomit. After being on the IV for 2 days and not allowed to drink anything I now had very loose stools, which I am still battling.

I do not have bloody stools and they have ruled out Chrones disease, colitis, my liver is fine, I dont have gall stones or kidney stones. The fever went away after five days in the hospital and even though the pain was still the same they released me with pain meds. The next thing on the list is a colonoscopy. I've been home for 3 days now, the pain has not subsided. It is still in the middle of my abdomen, it does not move, it is not relieved with a bowel movement or with gas. The fever has returned though it is only 100.7 right now. I feel like I'm being failed and forgotten about by the docotors and I dont know what is wrong with me and I dont want to have to live in the haze of pain killers forever. Any help would be wonderful. Thank you

I'm so sorry! I have no help for you, I just wanted to tell you to be persistent. Demand answers because it's your body and you deserve that. Also, please make sure you either take a stool softener or drink lots of fluids and eat fruits/veges while taking percocet. It is very well known for constipation and you don't need another reason to be in pain. Good luck to you.

Re: Spent 5 days in Hospital many symptoms no answer

Melody,

Sometimes symptoms that seem like they belong to one body system are really telling you there's a problem with something else. Then we visit a specialist because we think the problem is related to the symptoms we have -- and that specialist doesn't even think to check outside his/her own specialty areas.

It sounds like they are doing plenty of gastro-related tests, but so far you haven't mentioned anything having to do with OB-gyn. That's my suggestion for where to go next.

Make sure you write down all your symptoms, and when you notice them (time of day, after eating certain foods, etc). Also, when you go to the OB-gyn, make sure you take copies of all the records that were developed, and the results from all your recent tests.

Best of luck to you -- please keep us posted!
