Please help - Colonoscopy and RA Meds?!

Hi everyone,

I need some help ASAP !!!!! I start my preparation for my colonoscopy tomorrow, which is Wed. morning.

I take quite a few meds for RA and other ailemnts. I take Prednisone (trying to taper down, now on 2 one day and 1 the next). Also Tramadone (Ultram), 1, 4 x day. Skelaxin, 1, 4 x day. Nabumetone (Relafen), 1, 2 x day. And Sulfasalazin, 3, 1 x day.

Do any of yall know if I can take these tomorrow? The paper for the pre-op, says, no anti-inflammatory drugs. I think that possibly Relafen and Sulfasalazin might possibly be anti-inflammatory ???

Please tell what you know or have had experience with concerning this problem. I would appreciate any help you guys can give me.

Relafen is an antiinflamatory but I haven't heard of the other one. Anyways, I was told I had to stop these 5 days in advance of the colonoscopy. I would call your doctor right away to check on it.

Re: Please help - Colonoscopy and RA Meds?!

Thanks so much for your fast reply. I will check the board in the am also.

I did not take my relafen or sulfasalazin this evening. So, it will probably be ok - hopefully... I will also look up the sulfasalazin in the am. I just know that I am going to hurt badly without those 2 drugs. I guess that I can take some tylenol along with the two - three others that I can take. And curl up in a blankie after my prep is done!!!

Thanks again for you help! :>

Prednisone and Tramadone are also anti-inflammatroy drugs which is a whole lot of these kinds of drugs you are taking. Skelaxin is a sort of muscle relaxant. Hope this helps and good luck on your colonoscopy.

Good Luck tomorrow and make sure and let the doctors know that you kept on taking the antiinflammatory meds until tonight. If they are planning to cut out any polyps should you have any I don't think they can do it because you might bleed too much. 12 hours is not long enough for your clotting time to get back to normal. I hope you can make it without your pain medications - somehow I did. Prednisone is a steriod.
