Hi,My name is Dave and I`m having problems with my tiyglicerides ! I`m type2 diabetic but my counts are great. My cholestrol is 148 but my trygl. are 312.I don`t have a weight problem.I was on Metformin but it was keeping me from gaining weight,so my doctor replaced it with Rosiglitazone and I also take Fluvastatin,so I can`t take gemfibrozil ..Any ideas ?

Two characteristics of Metabolic Syndrome are insulin resistance and high triglycerides. Glucose can't get into the cells because of insulin resistance. So it finds its way to the liver, where it is converted to triglycerides. Which is why your tri's are so high. The best way to reduce them, IMHO, is to reduce carbs in your diet. Try it for a week and have another lipid panel done. You should see a big difference. Your blood glucose should also improve.

Re: Tryglicerides

FIrst of all i think your cholesterol is too low. Second, it is NOT true that all diabetics should be on cholesterol medication. You might try cinammon. Ever the USDA has done test on cinammon, and found that it stops of reduces insulin resistance. If i remember correctly, JJ uses cinnammon.

Re: Tryglicerides

Welcome,

I'm assumig you're asking by keeping your other medicines the same, how can I reduce tri's, correct? It doesn't sound like you have the "junk food" component to worry about (like me so you don't need to cut out doughnuts, candy, french fries . . . So, I would say from my experience 4 grams fish oil per day and red wine are two great reducers and help the heart and body in other ways. Also, SEE THE THREAD on Triglicerides and Natural Remedies.

Take Care and Good luck.
