Midwest Need your opinion

Hi Midwest. I'd like your thoughts on this one.
As you know my dr moved leaving me with a replacement dr that I question. She didn't test my free levels only TSH and total T3. I went to a lab where I can get tests done withour drs orders and got my Free levels tested.
Below are the results of all

TSH .01
Total T3 84 (60-181)

With this, she wanted to lower my meds which at the moment are
37.5 mcg unithroid and 1 grain Armour to 37.5 Unithroid and 1/2 grain Armour.

My Free levels cane back at...
Free T4 .70 (.58-1.64)
Free T3 2.50 (2.39-6.79)

As you know I made an appointment with another dr that will do the frees. But I also talked to the other Dr that practices and owns the clinic where I was going. She tells me they don't want the TSH that low because it can cause ostopenia which I assume she means osteoporosis or bone loss.
She says to take 75 unithroid and 1/2 grain Armour. She says with all the levels low it indicates something else going on and that I'm getting too much T3.

From what I've read and learned in the past, the TSH needs to be supressed in order for the frees to be high enough. However, as you can see, mine is supressed but frees are still low.

I still have the option of going to see the other dr that I mentioned in an earlier post.

What are your thoughts?

Re: Midwest Need your opinion

I would not want anything changed based on those low free Ts. Even the total T3 is too low!

I might be able to buy her argument about bone health if I knew for a fact that TSH was necessary for building bone or preventing its loss. But I think you can see as easily as I how patently absurd that argument would be. Bone loss is based on T4 and/or T3 that's too high, not TSH too low; since your Ts are nowhere near "high", you will not lose bone if your meds stay the same. In fact, you probably need an increase, not a decrease. (Also, bone loss is just as likely when the Ts are too low as when they're high.)

For a reason I can't explain, Armour very often suppresses TSH. I've never been able to find a documented reason why this is so, but if I needed proof to take to an MD, I'd consult with the people at Armour. I think I read here that someone did that... was able to talk with an RN or something. Anyway, there's the place to start.

You may already know that my TSH is also suppressed... has been .01-.02 for about 3 years now. My MD is perfectly fine with that; he doses based on the FTs.

Yep, just what I thougt. I just wanted another opinion and I knew yours would be honest and good as always.
I also think a dose increase is in order especially the way I feel and the symptoms I have.
My previous Dr. that moved once told me my TSH reading was very deceiving on me and the frees told everything.
I think the Dr change is in order here.
