Unhappy Indigestion and doctors indifference !!!!!

I have been experiencing indigestion for over one Month, immediatley after eating anything. Gas, stomach cramp like pains, loads of gas and this pain just below the rib cage. It can last all day but always resolves at night because of no food. Several years ago I experienced heart burn and have been on PPI for 3 years. The PPI helps the heartburn but does nothing for the indigestion. A barium test 3 years revealed minimal backing of stomach content. I have had similar stomach troubles at times over the last 5 years or so but has resolved itself.

The various doctors I have seen focus on this test of 3 years ago every time now as a means of not investigating this further and scoping seems to be out of the question as I am showing no alarm signals.

The last doctor I saw suggested that most patients that have a scope have negative results which means that this is a strain on resources. To me that is not an answer to my problem but a statistic and a risk made by a doctor who perhaps should have been an NHS accountant.

Is it really common for people to suffer this for so long

Thanks for reading and any help you can offer

Tony

Re: Indigestion and doctors indifference !!!!!

Hi Tony- i've had severe indigestion coupled with lots of other symptoms that were blown off by all of the doctors and specialists i've been too including alternative medicine doctors. I finally got a diagnosis of celiac disease this past week and can link those symptoms to everything i've been complaining about for five years. So yes, in a sense you need to go in with a list of possible causes and tests that you want, don't let a guy with a degree tell you what it is and what you do and do not need. You really have to be your own advocate and do lots of research. Good luck!
