hey all well i had chest tightness short of breath blab blah blah as usual and they gave me ativan until my doctors appt. tomarrow and i must say i feel alot better. Its looking like i have some kind of anxiety disorder, and if so what is the usual med they put you on from ativan. they tryed lexapro for two weeks then i had a bad spirometry test and they sent me to the pulmo, but now its looking like hes thinking my lungs etc are fine. so anyway whats a good anxiety medication after youve been taking ativan for a week?
That's hard to say. It depends on the doctor you go to. Some doctors(well most actually) do not feel comfortable giving any type of med like ativan, xanax, etc. for long term use. They would most likely try you on different SSRI's until you find one you can tolerate and wait 4-6 to see if it really is working. If you go to a psych they may put you on a med like ativan or keep you on that if it's working for you. I have tried more SSRI's and other meds for my GAD and panic than I can recall and none worked for me so I am now taking xanax exclusively and haven't had an attack for a long time. I just saw my psych today and he thinks I have found my optimal dose so we're sticking with it. It may be better for you to see a psych rather than a regular doc as they are more familar with anxiety disorders and how to treat them effectively.
well i go in tomarrow morning and theyll most likely try me on lexapro or somthin but we'll see. thanks for the help though. ill post tomarrow about what happend.

A daily SSRI (Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa) along with an "as needed" tranquilizer, to be taken only when needed (Valium, Ativan, Librium or even Atarax, which isnt habit forming)
