Throat problems, help?
For a few months now (3 or 4 at a guess), I've been having an on and off sore throat, but only on the left-hand side, and my throat feels like it's shifted to the side by something and it feels as if there's a lump there.
Over the past few days it become more prominent, and I've been having slight earache on occasions.
Now, obviously I've convinced myself it's throat cancer, which is what various websites are telling me it is. However, I don't drink or smoke, I don't have trouble talking, eating or swallowing, so I'm thinking it may be something else.
Could anyone suggest what it could be?

Re: Throat problems, help?
NSTTDC-
I know this is concerning for you, but as hard as it might be, try not to think "worse case" right now. Many of us really do worry ourselves when we have something unusual going on with our bodies. I can't begin to count the number of times I've looked symptoms up on-line and caused myself major mental trauma! For me, sometimes, a little bit of knowledge is more dangerous that good!! haha
Have you had your tonsils removed? If not, are you allergy proned by chance? Can you actually feel this lump externally? (Sorry if you said one way or the other in your post and I missed it) I would say that if you don't smoke, and are not around second hand smoke on a regular basis, it's more than likely not cancer.
Having said all that, my recommendation is to make an appointment with your doctor ASAP since this is something that has been going on for more than just a couple of days, and is now becoming more pronounced. It's always best to have anything that lasts more than a few days and is something "unusual" or out of the ordinary seen by a doctor.
Please let us know how you are feeling, and please do see your doctor. Take care!!

Re: Throat problems, help?
Ozzybug-
I haven not had my tonsils removed, what difference does this make?
I do get hayfever, and I'm allergic to Penicillin, but I haven't had that since I was about 2 years old.
I cannot feel the lump externally, however if I feel my throat it feels as if it has turned on its axis, so to speak; it doesn't feel as if it's straight (facing the right instead of facing forwards, not sure how best to explain it).
It tends to come in waves that last a few days, then go away for a few days. And it seems to have gotten worse since I started taking Oxytetracycline for acne, but I don't know if this could have any kind of affect on my throat?

Re: Throat problems, help?
I was thinking, that if you still hae your tonsils, it could be some sort of tonsilitis, but what you are describing, it doesn't really sound like that.
Reactions to medications can vary greatly, and can really have strange effects on the body. It could have something to do with the stuff you are having to use for acne, but it's still a good idea to have a doctor check it out.
I know this is really concerning for you, I've never heard of something like this where the throat feels as if it's not sitting straight in your neck. That is very unusual I have to say.
I do get the idea of how you are describing what you are feeling. Take care!

That's what is concerning me the most to be honest.
Do you have any idea what it could be? I thought tonsilitis as well, but I'm not convinced on that.
I guess I won't know until i go to a doctor!
