Re: PPI's and digestion

Hi Chickie99

I had an endoscopy about 1 1/2 years ago and I was sedated and I do not remember a thing. I hope yours goes the same.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Re: PPI's and digestion

what kind of enzymes are good for digestion? I tried a brand called Inf-zyme forte made by american biologics. I'm not really sure if it helped or not but that was before the PPI's. this is supposed to be my last month on PPI's but i just know i'm gonna have problems and need to find something to help me.

I had my first GI visit this past wednesday. Of course his expertise is not with throat and sinuses but he asked me a bunch of questions and was writing a lot of stuff down. He still wants to do an endoscopy because of the length of time i suffered with heartburn before being treated. this may sound crazy but i almost hope they find something so i'll at least have an answer to this insane pressure in my throat and making my ears feel like they are going to pop. I just feel like i'm going to choke all the time especially when turning my head left or right. I have to wait till the end of March to even get in for the endoscopy and then have to wait another month just for my follow up. so in reality, i have to wait 2 more months before i even hear anything about what going on inside me!! this is going to drive me nuts!!! and the whole time i try to keep telling myself that it's not something serious like cancer or tumor or such because i don't experience any weight loss, headaches, nausea, loss of appetite, fevers, etc. My most recent visit with my regular doc i brought up to him about my thyroid even though my blood tests for thyroid were ok. He still says my throid is ok, checked around and had me swallow but still hasn't done any kind of ultrasound. All my other blood work turned out ok too, all the normal test stuff like liver, blood count, it was all good!

It all has really got me down and depressed, i don't want to live everyday the rest of my life feeling like someone is standing on my adam's apple and whole neck! All i want to do is sleep, it's the only time i'm not bothered with the tightness and constant throat clearing. Actually, it doesn't bother me too much when i'm eating either, kinda makes it better for a little while anyways. I even start singing and humming and voice excercises just to see if it loosens up my throat at all and it does not help. It's really nice to come to this site and just write your troubles on here. It does help a little bit to ease the situation and listen to others with the same problems. thanks so much everyone!

Re: PPI's and digestion

Hi, I just wanted to weigh in on this. I have had the exact same thing for the past 5 months. I have even said I don't want to live with this pressure. It is the most awful thing I have experienced. I saw a ER doctor who said take tylenol and said I had slept wrong. Then I saw a general practicioner and he sent me to an ear nose and throat doctor. He had me do a barillium swallow test, which is a video x-ray that follows this liquid you swallow down your throat. Results were normal and he referred me to a GI doctor for follow up. The ENT said it was a carciophegial spasm which is the flap that holds food down basically has a charlie horse and that it would go away. After a few more months of suffering I finally went to see the GI. He just treats me like I don't know what I'm talking about. First without even touching me he prescibed me Prilosec and told me it was acid reflux. After two weeks on that and no releif I went back. Yesterday I had a endoscopy and that came back clear. I am really frustrated now. He told me to continue the prilosec so I guess I do have acid reflux. One thing that I started taking that seems to help is sinus medication. So maybe it is sinus pressure. But it feels like I have a second adam's apple just below my adams apple. Do you have this. Please let me know if you have any success with anything and I will do the same.

thanks

I am a woman and I know the feeling in the throat you are speaking of. You know, oddly - and I don't know why this happens but acid reflux can aggravate your sinus and cause all kinds of yucky post nasal symptoms. There's a chance too that the Prilosec isn't your drug. Try asking for Protonix or Nexium. The may work better for you. In addition to that, next time you have the lump feeling in your throat, try this little and harmless experiment... Get some plain saline spray from the drug store in the sinus and allergy section. Use it as a rinse for your sinus. Squirt 2 sprays up into each nostril and then blow it out. Do this whenever you feel that sensation for a day or two and see if that changes anything.

I for one, had sinus and asthma problems for several years. I developed adult asthma when I was 30. I just found out this month after a bunch of tests that my allergy symptoms and asthma were from the acid reflux!!! so now i'm on prilosec and it seems to be helping! I quit my asthma pills, "singulair" when I started the prilosec and have not had any more problems - with the exception to the days where my reflux is really bad. I'm taking the prilosec twice a day, once in the morning and again a few hours before before bed.
