Hi everyone. I am new here and my first post is actually for a friend of mine who is too embarrased to ask. My friend has genital herpes and thank goodness, she doesn't get outbreaks that often at all, but when she does, she says that it hurts like the dickens! She wanted to know, when an outbreak is active, does nerve pain in the buttocks and upper leg seem to be normal for an outbreak?
absoultely normal....herpes and shingles follow nerve routes and actually break out along nerve pathways....i had it once and it almost drove me mad. it itches, stung, burned and HURT. there's not too much they can do about it but prescribe something like valtrex and some creme to help with the itch. it is a thing that must just run it's course.i know, bummer huh?

Thanks, I will let her know. I just spoke with her on the phone and she said that it hurt her to sit on the toilet seat because of the pain which is just on her right side. How long will the pain last anyway? Will heat helpat all? I wouldn't think icing the leg would feel good if it is a nerve pain deal. I feel so bad for her. Thanks for the reply!
the pain, itch etc.. lasted about 2-3 weeks for me. i hated every minute of it..i was absolutely miserable.... so i feel for your friend. like i said, only thing i know that could help would be something like valtrex and some kind of creme to put on....otherwise maybe some advil or other pain reliever may be of some help.....have her call her doc or maybe even a pharmacist to see what options she may have to try to feel better while she goes this. tell her to hang in there....it will go away.....and be careful about scratching...can cause scars.....put on an overn mit to scratch yourself so you don't open the skin up....could cause infection...............best wishes.............keep me informed about how she is doing.............................peace: angel:
