"Controlled substance?"

Arranged to have a Rx called into the pharmacy today (dextro). Was told my meds were considered a "controlled substance," and they'd therefore have to limit my request to a 5-day supply.

I asked when that rule went into effect. They said it's always been that way. I said, "But I've had prescriptions called in here many times before." They said, "Well, that shouldn't have happened."

They called my Dr.'s office to confirm the Rx. My doctor wasn't there, so they tried to get confirmation from another doctor. The doctor said he "didn't feel comfortable" authorizing an Rx like that.

***?

And what does it mean when a medication is classified as a "controlled substance?" The whole experience made me feel like I was ordering some crazy drug like heroin or something. Weird.

Re: "Controlled substance?"

Yeah...it's an amphetamine. It's highly addictive to those that do not have ADD. It's like "speed" and makes some people high-I guess. For us with ADD it has kind of an opposite effect and allows us to focus and slow-down. At least that's what I've heard. It's a bit of a pain when it comes to getting it filled if your doc is out of town! That happened to me one time- my doc was on vacation for 2 weeks and neglected to tell me! There was NO WAY they were going to fill it. I acually had to set up an appointment with another doctor from another practice and have him do an evaluation-then he wrote me a script.Ugh!

Re: "Controlled substance?"

If our meds ever became unavailable, I'm not sure what I'd do with myself. Is that a realistic possibility?

Re: "Controlled substance?"

When you said you have had meds. called in before were you referering to Dextro or other meds.? If you were refering to Dextro then wow! The pharamcy and the doctor could be in big trouble for that one.

Re: "Controlled substance?"

Hey...I get what you mean-why do we have to get a "funny" look it's annoying! Unfourtunatley people abuse these type meds. and make it difficult for us.
I have never reacted to adderall really any different than a vitamin-except maybe the first few doses made me VERY sleepy. I have only heard of people saying it gives them lots of energy.I'm no expert on these meds either I just take them and organize my day! They are a class 2 controlled substance-so I think that means you need to bring the acual script to the pharmacy to get it filled (among other little rules).Your doc and pharmacy were "breaking the rules" for you to have had it called into the pharmacy all this time. No fair to you though!
