Curious, how many have anxiety and also allergies?

My anxiety and panic started in 1984. In 1985 I was diagnosed with
allergies and have been on allergy shots ever since. I notice when my
allergies are bad, my anxiety is worse. I feel there's some connection,
anyone else have any knowledge that the two have something to do w/
eachother??

Re: Curious, how many have anxiety and also allergies?

Oh, boy!! I think my family invented anxiety, depression, and allergies!! I was SOOOOOOO misdiagnosed for so long and my allergist told me that allergies and asthma cause depression and anxiety! Now the thyroid issues have kicked in to explain more issues that I've had for years and it is so comforting that someone in the medical field, between the allergist and endocrinologist, has given me credibility when the psychiatric field hasn't. God bless you for starting this thread! Thanks so much--Hopeto

Re: Curious, how many have anxiety and also allergies?

j2006 and Hopeto

This is very interesting, now what to do about it!!!
To answer you j2006, yes I am on med for anxiety. I was on Serzone(anti-D) for
about 10 yrs or more and it worked great for me, then it was taken off the
market. There is a generic, but I can't take it. It upsets my stomach. We
tried others, but had too many side effects so doc gave me Ativan to take
.5 1/2 tab 4 x a day. Helps, but sometimes when anxiety is bad, I just
suffer it out. However, I do notice when my allergies are flared up, the
anxiety is worse like right now.

Hopeto, you kind of backed up my theory. None of my docs ever put
the two together. I do remember in 1984 when I started with anxiety, I
was also having seasonal allergy problems. I had allergy testing and was
put on allergy shots and anxiety got better eventually I didn't have any
anxiety --- until 1992 after several deaths in the family very close together.
That's when I took the Serzone. I just always felt there is some connection
between the 2. Eventhough I am on allergy shots every 2 wks, I still have
flareups like now Feb and March, although I have been tested for everything
but food allergies and that is my next goal.

It will be interesting to see how many respond to this thread and lets
everyone keep eachother informed as to what we find out. I was reading
the other day that high histamine levels cause the adrenals to send out
more adrenaline so that would make sense. Now how do we lower the
histamine level in a natural way, I don't know.

Keep in touch and thanks for the replies.

Re: Curious, how many have anxiety and also allergies?

Are you referring to seasonal allergies? I don't have them, but I am allergic to tree nuts. I'm not allergic to peanuts, though, because they're legumes, not nuts. I developed the allergy when I was six. Not a big loss- I don't like nuts, other than peanuts, anyway, and I'm not a big fan of sweets, either.
