deciding about accutane

I'm 19, female and have mild acne. With concealer and foundation, I can pretty much cover up my face and look okay. I also have an issue with oil. My face gets pretty oily after 3 hrs. I use oil free moisturizer (Clinque). My back and chest has been a real problem spot for acne (red bumps mostly), but I've recently gone on Yasmin and Doxycycline and that has helped a lot (especially with my back). Before that, I've tried Retin-A, Benzamycin, all the topicals, lots of peels, microdermabrasion, etc. I've also used a lot of different washes - mostly benzyl based ones. The only thing that really helps is significant UV exposure, and I know how dangerous that is. It seems sort of extreme to go on accutane for mild-moderate acne... but I've tried everything else and still I can't get real clear skin. Especially my chest is really unpredictable and that makes clothing options difficult (especially in warm seasons)... I'll gets a breakout, use topical on it, and then it gets overly sensitive and rashy. I can never seem to balance my chest because of the skin's thinness. I was pretty sure I wanted to try accutane, and my dermatologist thinks it's worth it if I want to.
Does anyone have an opinion or any other suggestions (especially for my chest). After reading California1's story, I'm not so sure it's worth even the 2 months of hell and more breakouts while I'm at school and then working over the summer just to clear up a small problem.

Thoughts?? Thanks!

Re: deciding about accutane

Acne Scars, and I didnt want SCARS. When I saw my dermatologist as a teenager, I didnt even want anti-biotics. After she told me about it, I wanted to go strait to the cure that works, Accutane. Understanding her view, I had to "work" my way up to Accutane, making sure other medication didnt work, and to avoid Accutanes risk. So I did, and ended up with Accutane a few months later when everything else failed. I wanted my life back, and I got it with Accutane. It SUCKED the first few months--breakouts. Plan for this AHEAD of time if U can. I just FOCUSED on the FUTURE, and visioned my clear skin. And I got it.

From my experiences, EVERYTHING else I took felt like a joke. A waste of money, and time. I had BAD, large cyst acne. I felt like I NEEDED Accutane. Now, I have LOTS of confidence in it.

Does this post help?
