Re: need of help drastically

Cathy,
Not sure I'm remembering this correctly, but haven't you been having problems getting your numbers down? You might want to discuss with your doctor adding a medication to reduce your insulin resistance (or increasing the dosage if you're already on one.) Also, if you haven't yet done so, you should probably see an endocrinologist...your numbers are running way to high. I also question the use of novolog 70/30...I suspect you're not getting enough bolus insulin (the 30%), and might be better off learning to count carbs and going on a Lantus/humalog or Lantus/novalog regimen, which would give you more rapid-acting insulin to cover the food you eat.

As for the immediate situation, I agree that you should be calling your doctor or going to the ER.

If you can't get ahold of your dr I'd say go to the ER. I went into the ER feeling like crap I was dizzy/felt nauseated/tired/extremely thristy and my blood sugar was 400 (highest its ever been). Come to find out that the whole time I had elevated liver enzymes and a kidney stone, but was only treated for hypertension and extreme dehydration. There might be a secondary cause for the high blood sugars....OR might just be the insulin isn't high enoughof a dosage for you. My best friend is like yourself, her blood sugar runs high (400's) and she found no relief from insulin, she then was perscribed starlix with actos and it did wonders for her. Her blood sugar was "normal" and never above 130 no matter what she ate. So please go to the ER if you cannot get ahold of your dr, something secondary might be causing your high blood sugars. GOOD LUCK!

Re: need of help drastically

My sister n law gave me a vial of novolog not the 70 30 and I took 20 units of that and my normal lantus which is what I was on to begin with and level droped down to 257 I know that is still high but it is better than the 424. I am going to dr. in the morning becaus at the injection sight of the lantus I hav a big knot poped up and it is very tender. IT is red too so I am just wondering if maybe I might be allergic to it. I mean it really hurt when I injected it. Not just the little burning it hurt and itched like crazy. So I am going back to dr tomorrow. as long as I can keep it below 300 I feel a little better but tomorrow will be the test. I am about afraid to take the lantus today . I have never had it hurt like that before.any ideas?

Re: need of help drastically

do you drink soda pop daily? orange juice? My husband's glucose went from 300 to a low of 91 when he stopped ALL , I mean ALL sodas and donuts and started taking a supplement called Bitter Melon and Fenugreek daily. He Never exercises at all; just stopped the sugars and takes SOME Actos and Amaryl (which weren't working) and the 2 formulas above. He quickly dropped 30 lb and one pant size (working on a second drop in size). I am Amazed what stopping a soda habit can do for your weight. Wow.

Any reading over 200 damages your organs. If maitained for awhile. That means eyes, pancrease, heart and all the vessels and veins that go to the heart. I would have gone to the ER right away their might be something else causing your high numbers. I take short acting humalog and lantus and I feel that is the best way to go.
