Question Unexplained Hypokalemia

Does anyone else have this problem? I have been going to a kidney specialist for over a year and a half now. He says I have healthy kidneys but they are putting out too much potassium, BUT DOESN"T KNOW WHY. I have to take 4 KlorCon a day. I have high blood pressure, and take Avapro and Spironolactone. I have low thyroid, too and take pills for that. I am tired most of the time and have episodes of weakness and feeling ill. Help!

Re: Unexplained Hypokalemia

halo,

If your adrenal glands put out too much Aldosterone -- you will lose too much potassium in your urine and it has to be replaced. A rear condition but happens to 1 in 200,000 people.

AS you may know Aldosterone controls the balance of both potassium and sodium in your body.

I have a condition named Hyperaldosteroneism because of enlarged adrenal glands-- hyperplasia. This condition is usually caused by a small tumor in a adrenal gland but not me.

Taking Spirolactone should cure your problem. But, it does not work well for men since it reduces male hormones and causes breast enlargements.

I think you need to see an Endrocrinologist that treats adrendal glands as well as thyroid problems.

I wish you well----Harry
