Question Stopping pill for 2 weeks and then resume new BCP--bad idea?

I was thinking about stopping taking my pill today (which is almost the end of week 2 of my pack). I went to my obgyn yesterday and she prescribed me Yasmin (I am on Loestrin 24 fe) and told me to begin that after the next pill pack. It's just that I want to start losing weight again, and another 2 weeks of being bloated and fat is depressing to think about. Would it be ok for me to stop taking my pill and then start again right after my would-be period? Or would that be a terrible idea?

Re: Stopping pill for 2 weeks and then resume new BCP--bad idea?

If you're using the pill for contraceptive purposes, then you shouldn't skip for 2 weeks because you will not be protected.

As to the taking off 2 weeks for losing weight or getting rid of the bloated feeling, it's not enough time to make a difference. It takes a while, a pretty long time, to get the hormones regulated in your body to start feeling better after quitting the pill. If you're only quit for 2 weeks, you're still going to feel pretty lousy, in fact you might feel worse because you might start getting some additional withdrawal symptoms.

They claim that Yasmin and Yaz are supposed to help with water weight gain, and allegedly it's supposed to get rid of the bloated feeling. Both pills have a diuretic in them that is supposed to help with that problem. But then the problem becomes, after you try to quit the Yasmin or Yaz, your body will be so accustomed to having that diuretic componant all the time that you'll probably have worse withdrawals when you eventually do quit the pill for real.

Anyway, I don't advise you taking 2 weeks. There is really no reason for it, it's not going to help your problem, and in fact it will probably cause more. You might as well just finish out this pack and start your new one when you would have started your next pack of Loestrin.

I agree with Kszan. I too have had weight gain on Loestrin FE 24 22lbs. The 2 weeks that you want to skip will not make a difference in your weight. This is my 5th night to take my new pill Ortho Cept.

Stopping and starting again with a new pill will probably have bad side effects or make you feel sick.

Re: Stopping pill for 2 weeks and then resume new BCP--bad idea?

hey i have been using yasmin for over a year:
i actually lost a little weight when i first started using it. by now, my weight has balanced out.
so you might not gain any weight at all. my doctor said that both yasmin and yaz shouldn't cause weight gain b/c they are so low dosage and most people most likely are only using the pill as an excuse to give in to urges.
whether this is true or not, i at least didn't gain any weight. and i rarely feel bloated.

I actually decided to continue taking Loestrin until I finish out the pack. However, my doctor suggested that I am probably retaining a lot of water. I took that into consideration one night and bought pills to eliminate water retention, and the difference in my stomach's appearance is ridiculous. I still did gain a few pounds, but not nearly as much as I had originally thought. I suggest this to anyone who is on Loestrin 24 fe--most of your weight is most likely water!

Annnnnnd.. I can't wait to go back to Yasmin! yay!
