Re: Zetia Question
My husband took Zetia for about a year. The longer he took Zetia the more I noticed little things, then big things but did not relate it to the Zetia. One day we were talking and he told me he had been off and on at 3 month intervals. Hmmm....I began to put two and two together and it was when he was off Zetia he was acting normal and while on Zetia it was another story. I noticed it more in his driving. While driving he sat looking ahead with a somber expression (like he had lost his last friend), oblivous to his surroundings, aggressive driver, tailgaiter, irritable, no patience with other drivers and would even race to keep drivers from cutting in (with me screaming at him to get off the accelerator (in town), I almost had to take dangerous measures to stop him). He was irritable at home too, so different and a total contrast to his normal laid back personality.
He would order things via mail and have no recollection of doing so. He went to the bank to have a gift letter sent to our son's morgatage company and he gave the bank person a note with the address and had a charity listed. Hmmm...I got calls from the morgtgage company and after talking to the bank learned what he had done. The bank person told me what he gave her and she apparently was just being nice to this elderly man and did what he requested. This was a shake up to me, a man handling banking while being in a terrible mental state.
He stopped Zetia. After Zetia was out of his system in a few months he returned to his old self, even his cousin commented to him about how much better he looked. I now have my husband back mentally.
No, it did not lower his cholesterol. He has been following my diabetic diet and that has helped lower his numbers.

Re: Zetia Question
Misty, thanks so much for your reply. I posted this on the wrong board and then couldn't delete it, so I really didn't expect an answer. For six months I took 20 mg. policosanol daily, only to have TC go up 4 points. However, the triglycerides dropped 40 points and the Hdl went up 5 points. The LDL,Hdl, and triglycerides are all within normal range now, but the TC was 251. However, the risk rate was also lower and is now in the normal range. Very mixed results. Too late to make a long story short, but now dr. wants me on Zetia. She had earlier mentioned Niacin, and I have ordered some inositol hexaniacinate and will work my way up to 1500mg. daily of that. I really did not want Zetia, and stories like your husband's convince me that I'm right to avoid them. Hope he's still doing well without them.

Re: Zetia Question
dear misty800
my husband has been on zetia for almost a year too and i noticed that he has been acting strange lately. he has been acting exactly the way you had described on your message. actually even worse and i would like to ask you some more questions regarding my husbands weird behavior. i need more info and would like to know if other people had the same side effects too on zetia? i am not sure if zetia is the cause but i'm trying to figure out why he's acting this way... thanks!
