Fleet prep and blood pressure meds...

My husband has recently been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, so I have been reading on the Kidney Forum.

One of the threads that caught my attention has to do with using the Fleet prep for routine colonoscopies when you are on an ACE inhibitor blood pressure medication (has different trade names; my husband takes Lotensin). Bottom line is DON'T!!

The Fleet label says not to use if you have kidney disease, but it does not say not to use it if you take an ACE inhibitor BP medication. Doing so can result in acute kidney failure or in kidney damage.

My husband became very sick with extreme nausea and vomiting after his last colonoscopy and was hospitalized overnight. We do not know that the Fleet was to blame, but we are suspicious. The nephrologist we are seeing said that he has two patients that he feels are suffering kidney problems because of the Fleet prep.

I know that my fellow IBS sufferers don't need another problem, so I wanted those of you who didn't know about this to be informed!!
