Re: the truth about anal fissures

thank you for taking the time to respond and share what you're trying...I've been dealing with the fissure for almost 2 months now, but I suspect it was coming on for a few months before that and I didn't know what it was. I had had a vague sense of swelling down there after a bm but it didn't hurt and I just assumed it was something that would go away...whatever that swelling was morphed into its own evil life force in early April. I just woke up one morning and there it was (this was after a night of spicy food and drink)...throughout the whole thing, the fissure itself has not been that bad, its the tag. "Tag" sounds so tiny and innocent, when in truth mine is about the size you describe. I had to laugh when you said it felt like a watermelon when it's sensitive. That's how mine is...when it's not inflamed its managable, but when it is..oh boy.. Anyway - I've been using nifedipine cream described by colon surgeon and I do think something is working whether its the cream or just time I'm not sure. I've also been taking stool softeners and Miralax, which is a great product. I can't say enough about the Miralax for anyone wrestling with regularity. One thing that frustrated me was the surgeon telling me I must have had a very hard bm that caused this...but I don't remember anything. I would not consider myself a true constipation sufferer, but I do think the Miralax has helped. So, that's what I'm trying for now...still thinking about the surgery, but feel well enough to hold off...you're right about not wishing this on anyone. Good luck with the anti fungal cream and stay in touch! Oh and thanks for the tip on the wheat grass cream... Lynn
