GERD Are there really solutions?

Hello all. I recently had an Endoscopy/colonoscopy procedure. Diagnosed with gastritis, Hiatal hernia, Refux, and a "ring" on my esophagus. Have been taking Protonix 40mg. Although it seems to help a little, there seems to be side effects.(Bloating, gas, headaches/ diahrrea) Seem to have all kind of medical issues now. Insomnia, sinusitus from allergies, fatigue, etc. Immunity system seems to be down as I get sick easily.Have had all kind of bloodwork/ testing done for bacteria/parasitic infections, chrohns, celiac, sleep apnea. All negative.I was wondering now if a Nutritionalist/homeopathic specialist might be in order? I take probiotics and drink aloe vera that helps somewhat, but I can't take this see-saw cycle of pain//sickness/tiredness anymore. I don't smoke, although I average 12 beers a week.Blood pressure and cholesterol levels are high. Was prescribed Toprol and lipitor.I am not overweight, but do not exercise as much as I probably should.I really would like to get off these meds if I could. I believe essentially I need suggestions from ya'll on boosting immune system, treating the stomach disorders and naturally lowering blood pressure/cholesterol levels. I really need input as sometimes I feel like life isn't worth living. Thank you for reading and God Bless. Will probably post this in other areas for help.

Re: GERD Are there really solutions?

You mentioned that you take Probiotics. Can you describe what you're taking such as the number of Strains & Microorganisms (how many Billions) per capsule. It's possible that it's not powerful enough. I'm taking NSI Probiotic 15-35 which contains 15 Strains & 35 Billion Microorganisms (Good Bacteria). This has resolved the Acid Reflux that I developed.

Re: Need nutritional suggestions, please!

Looks like you actually have a clean bill of health and your main problem may be acid reflux. I have a couple of suggestions which will help with that as well as your high cholesterol and blood pressure and get you out of the medicine/side effect cycle.
What you need is to control your diet (and I don't mean just calories) and add lots of exercise. Learn which foods give you acid reflux and elliminate them. Eat lots of veggies, whole grains, protein. These are unlikely to give you acid. Eliminate sugary, fried and processed foods, bad for you in general and bad for acid reflux.
Now, for exercise. Do not underestimate what it can do for your health, every aspect of your health. Do about 30 minutes of pretty intense cardio at least 3-4 times a week and do weight training 3 times a week. You will be amazed at how good you will start feeling once you make the changes in your diet and start working out. You don't need to depend on medicines for making you feel better. Some of the side effects are as bad as the condition you are treating.
So don't wait and do something good for yourself. Try my suggestions and see what happens.

Re: GERD Are there really solutions?

I'm familiar with the probiotic product you're taking and I decided against it since I felt it didn't have enough Strains or Microorganisms. 13 Billion microrganisms a day is much too low. Since you already have the product take 3 caps a day or 39 Billion. Take all 3 caps after breakfast. A much better product also available at Vitamin Shoppe is Garden of Life Primal Defense. It's a whole food with 14 Strains and far more Microorganisms. Consider this product. Purchase Licorice Root Extract 450mg. Take one capsule after each meal. Visit your local supermarket and in the dairy section look for KEFIR (a cousin of yogurt). This is a Probiotic and very tasty and comes in several flavors. Drink at least 16oz a day. Give all of these additions a few weeks to work. Look for a list of Acid friendly foods. All of these recommendations should help. If so, let us know.
