Re: anyone suffer from Adult Acne?

I have had acne since I was eight years old and I've had it in varying degrees for twenty years. I just saw the derm yesterday and over the years I've tried retin-a, retin-a micro, differin, tazorac, doxy, birth control, etc. It's not severe, but it's persistant!

Derm suggested accutane. I am researching it and will post another thread about it shortly. My mother is in her 50's and still gets acne. I don't want to spend the rest of my life with this, that's for sure.

Re: anyone suffer from Adult Acne?

accutane doesn't necessarily mean being cured for life. I have already done two phases of accutane, and after each i became totally clear, then broke out about 1 month after finishing the treatment. for me it's a hormonal problem, and i will probably have to take some kind of hormonal meds for at least a few years.

I did suffer with adult acne! But not anymore! Spironolactone cleared me up within a month...I am on 100mg a day! I have been on it for 1 and 1/2 years and it's still working!!

Re: anyone suffer from Adult Acne?

Wish i could take spiro, but im having a problem with my potassium levels being to low already. It sounds like it would have been the perfect med for me.I only have acne on my chin,so im thinking its hormonal.Take care.

Re: anyone suffer from Adult Acne?

If your K+ levels are low, then Spiro would be perfect! It's a potassium-sparing diuretic, meaning that it doesn't allow excess K+ to be lost. One of the possible side effects of the drug is high levels of Potassium. Maybe it could work for you to rid your acne AND normalize your K+ levels.
