Re: Test result question

One more thing they will tell you that you need to come in and pick up a pill (to slow heart rate for CT Scan) and instructions before test date

It's not around the corner from me so I asked if they would mail them and they did.

One more thing- I started taking the triamterene (diuretic) and I have this unbelievable craving for salt- I found myself eating dill pickle chips straight from the jar and really craving them- if sodium makes me retain water salt is that last thing I should have but this was one strong need for something salty- does a diurectic cause the overwhelming salt craving and if so- would you know why?

Good luck!

Re: Test result question

Need,

Thank you for the information. I will call them today and try to get an appointment at the end of next week. They also seem to have 2 offices in Jersey City that ywould be VERY convenient for me but Nutley is fine.

There would be little time to do anything by May, but perhaps I have some of whatever they prescribe for slowing the heart...I NEVER throw out a half bottle of pills so I have 3 different beta-blockers in the closet which is most likely what they'll prescribe! Maybe I'll luck out.
Do you know what kind of heart rate they like?

Triamterene, eh. That is almost ALWAYS given with HCTZ. Is it the combo drug you mean (like Maxzide, Dyazide?)
Both drugs work by eliminating sodium, and thus the craving for salty things. DON'T RESTRICT sodium, but don't go so overboard that you foil the drugs. Perhaps limit you pickles to 750 mg. sodium per day...not sure how many dills that is.

I hope you got the appointment! I usually go to their Oradell office- they are the ones who told me about the Free test but told me it's only in Nutley- they never mentioned Jersey City! The pill they mailed me is blue (if that helps you at all).
It is definitely Triamterene not a combo and wasn't prescribed with anything else. What is HCTZ? OH WAIT- On the bottle it says Triamterene 37.5-HCT25MG! Does that mean it's a combo and if so, what the heck is the combo for?
I definitely went overboard on the salt intake today (one half jar of pickles and green olivesI would guess that's significantly higher than necessary- they are on the south beach diet and are low calorie and boy was I loving them ) and I actually think it did affect the Triamterene (I haven't had to pee much at all) unlike the previous few days! A lesson learned.
