Question Depo to Kariva (Mircette)

My Dr. called in a prescription for me on Friday for Kariva. Has anyone had any bad/good experiences and/or side effects with this pill? She suggested that I start the pills this Sunday, the 23rd. Should I give my body more time to rid itself of the Depo (next shot due 6/21) before I start the Kariva? How long does it normally take for your body to adjust?

I'm extremely desperate for answers, opinions, comments... anything!!!

Any input is greatly appreciated -thanks

From what I understand Depo seems to take longer to get out of your system than the pills. I was on Mircette for a few years. Had no problems with it. Not sure why my doctor switched me. It was along time ago.

I switched from depo to loestrin 24 Fe, I had a few bad weeks but I am doing better than ever. I detoxed for two weeks before I started my new BC. Why are you switching?

Re: Depo to Kariva (Mircette)

Back in 2005 I had a tubal reversal and was put on Kariva just after surgery. Although I only took it for 2 1/2 weeks, I didn't have any problems with it, I got off because we were trying to conceive.

Ultimately, my doctor switched me because of my complaints of all the weight gain from the Depo. I lost a lot of weight after giving birth to my son (born 1/31/07) then started Depo on 3/21/07 and despite what I ate, I kept racking on the pounds. Typically, I eat oatmeal for breakfast, a turkey or tuna sandwich for lunch and a turkey, chicken or tuna salad for dinner. I know the weight gain was from the Depo. I could kick myself in the rear for thinking about convenience over side effects!!! To all women out there... DO NOT USE DEPO... it should be banned!

I started Kariva one week early on the 6/17. I haven't had any negative side effects as of yet. I guess only time will tell. I just hope this was a good choice.

Re: Depo to Kariva (Mircette)

I think you'll like Kariva, especially if you're sensitive to weight gain. I tried a few different pills, and it seemed like every one of them made me gain weight except Kariva. I may have lost a couple of pounds when I first started it. I loved it! I did have some BTB with it, so when I get it again I think I'm going to try the Mircette brand name version.
