Every evening frog-in-throat/phlegm

I had a hacking cough starting in the middle of May. I've pretty much gotten over it, feel fine during the day, but EVERY evening I've got stuff in my throat that makes me clear my throat or cough for 2-3 hours every evening. I try very hard to get it all out before I go to bed. I've tried ignoring it, only to have it "load up" and start choking me about 3 a.m.

I've been to 3 doctors over 4 doctor visits. One gave me an inhaler, one gave my a Z-pack and a small dose of prednisone, and the most recent doctor gave me a 14-day course of Singulair and Prilosec (thinking I'm making my own mucous from an allergy or reflux). This is day 8 on the Singulair and Prilosec and NOTHING is helping. I think what I really need is a serious dose of prednisone to knock this thing down once and for all.

Have any of you experienced anything like this? I'm SO sick of this, I don't want to spend my whole summer clearing my throat of phlegm.

Increasing your water intake will help to thin the mucous.
It's interesting that you're fine all day and this happens only in the evening. Could there be something in your home that is an allergen/irritant?

I used to work at an allergy clinic and many people would have grass allergies around this time that would cause similar symptoms. Have you been tested for allergies?

Re: Every evening frog-in-throat/phlegm

I have the thick mucus in the morning. I run every morning and it is awful how thick this stuff is. Is there something I can take to help with it?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Debbie
