Re: Lyme Treatment

Bigstan,

You also need to realize that the CDC's definition of Lyme Disease was intended for their own tracking purposes and is VERY restrictive. They said years ago, and I believe still do, that their criteria were NOT to be used for diagnosis of the disease. Why in the heck they chose such restrictive criteria is beyond me, but probably some bureaucratic reason so they could say there isn't that much of a problem.

The CDC now admits that the real number of people with Lymes is probably 10x what the official definition numbers show.

Most of the bands they test for are Lyme-specific, so having any positives warrants treatment, as do equivocable results just to be safe.

You also might ask the doc to consider Flagyl or Tindamax (preferred with fewer side effects) at the same time as the IV meds. You need a second antibiotic to kill the spirochetes where they are hiding from the IV meds...

I''m running at about 98% of normal, but have some serious issues with lingering inflammation, specifically in my shoulders (which keep me from doing physical labor), and I have a leaky gut due to a combination of Lyme inflammation and a fair bit of Candida in my gut despite 2 rounds of Diflucan. The leaky gut has given me a allergy to dairy, soy products, so I'm on a hopefully temporary diet avoiding those (which is very hard) until my gut heals someday.

My doc used Cefzil 500mg x 2 daily to kill the spirochetes in the blood, 500mg Tindamax to kill the cyst form, 80mg (ramp up dose slowly) Benicar to help the immune system cope with all the byproducts of the Lyme dieoff and reduce inflammation. He also put me on sizeable doses of Vitamin D3 because my levels were so low. And a bunch of other supplements to help me heal.
