Lexapro?

I had a very bad reaction to marijuana when I was a teenager. Since then, I have been afraid to take ANY drugs. It was years before I would even take Tylenol. I have been diagnosed with panic disorder and the main road block to my recovery is that I am deathly afraid to take the medications; Lexapro and Alprazolam. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thank You.

Re: Lexapro?

I take Lexapro (along with a couple other meds for bipolar/really bad, scary mood swings/depression). I fell REALLY good since the Lexapro was added. I had been on it a few years ago but stopped taking it because of a sexual side effect I was having even though I felt GREAT. I am once again having the same side effect, but I think I need to give it more time and plus it's a real life and relationship saver. Sexual s.e. in men and women can be decreased libido and in WOMEN (of course ) anorgasmia, which means my sex drive is there but AS SOON as I'm about to have one everything stops and stays where it is. It doesn't go away, it's like freeze frame of constantly being ABOUT TO! I'd rather have no sex drive........BUT...many people have no s.e. at all, but I actually think it's worth it. Good luck and keep me posted.

I just started taking Lexapro 2 days ago. For some reason, I have had worse panic attacks about 15 minutes after taking my small dose of 1/4 of a 10 mg. pill. It could be my paranoia of taking the pill. It could be cause I am leaving the house and going into public right after to do errands. It could be because a side effect of first taking it is increased anxiety and I know this. Who knows. I am sensitive to everything and way too aware of my inner workings and the world around me, so...

I have all the panic disorders too, so I understand!! Xanax is great though and it is a lifesaver. Really. I would have went completely insane years ago if it weren't for it. I have taken a lot sometimes and then very little other times and none for months at a time for years. Silly me back to my attacks so, whqat gives, ya know? Anyway, Xanax will calm your butt down. Just take the smallest amount first and if needed another small piece. You can break it up. =) Sure it can be addictive but people are wired differently and if you need it for the rest of your life to breathe easier then so be it. What's the difference between needing that to feel ok and people that need insulin or heart meds for the duration of their life? Just food for thought. I understand though. I don't want to have to take meds either and have been fighting with it inside for awhile now. The latest Lexapro ordeal has me all up in anxiety on THAT situation. I have read good things on it though. So I am hoping it will get better....hoping...hoping...

I was just curious of the mgs. you were on to have the sexual side effects and how long you were on it to feel that...or not feel it, as it were?
