Hi julie,
Actually I'm kind of a mutant. I'm mostly hyper but I've got a little hypo thrown in and other than the high cholesterol and a pituitary that doesn't know when to shut off, the hypo part doesn't cause me much trouble. It's a rare disorder.
I've also just been diagnosed with renal tubular acidosis. Another rare disorder and one of the reasons I'm now haunting this board as well as the thyroid board.
Now, hypothyroidism is a leading cause of high cholesterol. There's also sometimes a link between thryoid disorders and high sugar. The neuropathy can also be seen with thyroid disorders, both hyper and hypo as well as diabetes.
Diabetes, hypertension and thyroid disorders can all lead to kidney disease. It's very important that you keep those under control. Doing all you can to live a healthy lifestyle is going to help too. You may wanna visit the national kidney foundation's website. It's got a lot of good info and tips on things you can do to help.
Shout out here or the thyroid board if you got any questions. I collect all kinds of research on this stuff.
