Upper Right Quadrant Pain

For 5 days now I have had a constant pain in my upper right quadrant area, just to the right of my sternum about 2-3 ribs up, and below the breast about 2 inches. I have celiac and had been getting some acid reflux in the past 2 months that I think was related to eating an ice cream with gluten in it. In any case I was having some heartburn so took a tums, which I had not taken before, and within 5 minutes I was belching like crazy. The belching subsided a few minutes later, but then I felt a slight burn in my upper right quadrant area.

I went to the doctor the next day and he felt around and said he thought it might be a gall stone based on the area and sent me to get an ultra sound. The next day I got an ultrasound and today I heard that everything looked ok, no inflammation or gallstones found. They mentioned there was some sludge, but nothing to even be concerned about.

Going forward I was given some prilosec otc and told to monitor it for a few days. Also I should mention I take Vytorin 10/80 and asked to stop that just to rule out any related issue.

So my question is what could it be?? Do ulcers form in the upper right quadrant area? The pain has never really gone away now 5 days later and gets aggrivated throughout the day, usually 30 minutes - 2 hours after eating. Ususally laying down makes things feel better. However I went on a short walk last night and felt increasing burning.

Please help me understand what it could be or how concearned I need to be. Doc said if it persists next week he may send me for a HID scan or to see a GI doctor. I am just concerned that it is on my upper right side where important organs live. Should I be overly concerned or give the priolosec a try??

Thanks

Re: Upper Right Quadrant Pain

Give the Prilosec a try. If it keeps hurting, have the HIDA scan...it will test your gallbladder for ejection rate. In the meantime, stick to a fat free diet.
