Re: curt demands effect on person with Parkinsons

I was interested in your answer. My husband may have PD. Docs arent totally sure and I find myself sometimes impatient with him. Now that I look back, I hate all the times that I said to him, "Pick up your feet when you walk" or "stand up straight". These symptoms have been going on for a few years now. Who knew that he couldnt help himself. Makes me feel sick that I snapped at him during those times. Now, I try to be more loving even though I am so scared of what our future will be and how he is feeling inside. Hopefully, we will still have a full life ahead of us for as long as we can. Thanks

In Response to monekeybrain: Just interested in what other medications you take. I take Sinimet 5x's a day, plus Azilect 0.5mg once a day. I have been taking meds for about 4 years now. Thanks

Re: curt demands effect on person with Parkinsons

Oh how I agree with you! I have learned just this week that Mom's refusal to accept her diagnosis was because as a caregiver she knew the progression of PD and was totally scared. By pretending she would be fully restored to her normal routine and health, she could adapt to the problems she now experiences due to her PD.
The nurse that was given to us for a short time to evaluate Mom in her home shared this with me, and I am so thankful. Thanks, 4point9

Re: curt demands effect on person with Parkinsons

Hi to all,

My 80 yr. old father has Parkinsons and Lewey Body Disease. He is in a NH but was cared for at home by my mother 4 months ago. I was interested in this thread, but do not know if this post belongs here.

My father takes 2 meds for his Lewey Body Disease and Sinemet for his Parkinson, plus Seroquel, because sometime he gets a little violent. He has thrown things a couple of times. He sometimes does not want to do what the nursing home aides/nurses want/need for him to do.

I would like to know (in yalls opinion), if the fact that every now and then, my father just sort of stops right where he is. Like if he is in physical therapy and walking down the hall with the PT person, he just stops right in the middle of the aisle and does not go for about 1 - 2 minutes, no matter what is said. They or we, do not BARK at him, just try to cajole him into going on.

He also has very small tremors, that cannot be seen by the untrained eye. And about 4 times a week, possibly more now, he has BIG jerks. Like his hand will go up about 1 foot, also, when he is in bed or in his wheel chair, his legs, both, will jerk up about 2 - 3 feet.

Do any of you have any experience with this? If so, what meds are given to try to tame this?

Thanks for any help you might have or know about.

Wannabe
