My Metformin isnt working as well as it used to

I have had type 2 diabetes for a few years now. My doc put me on Metformin 500mg 3x day. Lately, it does not seem to be doing any good. Should I be uping my dosage? I heard that there is a 1000mg time released Metformin out there, has anyone tried it? Does is work good? Sometimes I forget to take my Metformin right after a meal. I know So I was going to ask my doc about the timed released, except that would put me short 500mg a day from what I take now. Any other suggestions I can take to my doc? Thanks, Kari

They have 500mg ER Metformin also. You could take 1000mg in the morning and 500mg at night w/ meals. You may also need to add another med in addition to the Metformin. I'm currently on Metformin ER and Actos myself.

Dear Rooster, what is that other drug you take other than metformin? My mom is hypoglycemic and we were recently staying together at her condo and we were on the exact same diet, and her blood sugar was fine and mine was through the roof! We ate low carbs and low sugars etc and my glucose was still at 235 first thing next morning. I am so dang tired too these days, but then again I have Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain disease too....but I am just more tired than usual. Oh yea, welcome to the boards!.....Kari

Actos 30mg. 1 time daily. You can find more info at http://www.actos.com/actos/home.aspx. I will say that it is expensive though. I don't have any insurance and it cost me about $225 a month just for the Actos. They have Actomet also, it is Actos and Metformin in one. Might be something you could check into.
