Atavan/Lorazapan addicting?

I have heard it is very addicting. Being that kind of personality, I try not to take these drugs but I have a prescription for anxiety. Now I found out it helps with my upper stomach when it bloats. This happens almost every afternoon and I have to take my bra off it's so uncomfortable. I'm a D cup so don't like doing this but if I'm just in my house I will. It really has changed my life and it's limited my activities in the afternoon. Long story of GERD/Hiatal Hernia/barrett's/Gastroparesis.

If Atavan helps, I want to take it. How soon would I get addicted taking 1 mg. maybe 5 days a week? I'm 63 so I want to tell myself, what the he!!. What difference does it make at my age.

Re: Atavan/Lorazapan addicting?

First there is a differences between addiction and physical dependence. Both of those meds are addictive so if you have a addictive personality then it may be better to stay away from them. And if you do decide to take them take them only as directed but remember that if you are on the for a while you will become physical dependent and if you stop abruptly you'll have withdrawal symptoms so a taper will be necessary. Good luck and I hope things work our for you.

Re: Atavan/Lorazapan addicting?

HI!
As most of us know Benzo's are highley addictive. Have you tried other meds like GI cocktail, bentyl, arco lase or Donnatel for your gastro problem? All these are Rx"s that are mostly prescribed by a Gastroligist. As far as your anxiety, have you tried Buspar? Just trying to point you into the non addictive direction. Hope for the best for you........

Re: Atavan/Lorazapan addicting?

I have upper digestive troubles.
bentyl is for lower GI.
arco lase, is this digestive enzymes? I have tried something like this and to no avail. I will give it a try again though.

I have Gastroparesis and not sure anything will help. The one drug that helps that I am unable to take because it causes Restles Leg Syndrome. I already have enough problems with that.

Buspar, well, I was on that one time. Didn't like being on it.

makinit, I appreciate your help. I think it would be best to continue on my search for a different solution. I don't like taking Atavan on a regular basis.

BTW mentalvdt, Atavan/Lorazapan are the same drug just Lorazapan is the generic for it.
