Re: My Doc Appointment Today

Hi Missy,

My head has been so sore now for days since this sinus infection took hold and here's why:

It is also possible that chronic sinus inflammation may result in points of contact within the nasal cavity. Some theories involve these contact points as serving as possible triggers for migraine and other types of headache by resulting in increased levels of Substance P. Substance P is a neuropeptide which is involved in the pain response and may cause feedback through the trigeminal nerve system and feed into the migraine response.

I am about to see the doc for antibiotics. It's not going away and I can't stand this head pain and overall lousy feeling anymore.

Best .. Scott

Re: My Doc Appointment Today

Very good information indeed. I'm very glad that it seems that there is a doctor that is pointing you in the right direction.

I know you mentioned Acetazolamide....please be careful if you have low blood pressure with this medication as it can lower your blood pressure even more. One of my several ENT's prescribed it to me and I was getting chest pain in the heart area while excersing. It felt like my heart was skipping beats. Even while sitting around it felt like I was having heart palpitations...Quite painful and scary. So after 3 or 4 days, I stopped taking it.

Re: My Doc Appointment Today

Thanks for the heads up - WhyAmIDizzy. I am actually kinda dreading taking my first dose of ANYTHING for my migraines. I don't like taking medication, but if it helps, great. I don't like the idea too much of taking a diuretic. So I am going to start out nice and slow. If I get heart palps like you did, I will definitely stop because those scare the bageebers outta me (I get those now once in a while). ICK

Scott - Good idea about the antibiotic. I think we "sinus sufferers" know when it's time to start those. There is a certain feeling I get when I just know that it's time for antibiotics, especially if there is (pardon the grossness here), yellow/green mucous showing up. If the mucous is clear or white, then it probably won't be an infection, but ya never know. Hope it clears up whatever it is.

Are you taking anything right now for the migraines, Scott? It could be a really bad doozy of a migraine that is killing you and you've got to settle that beast down!

Re: My Doc Appointment Today

I had an appointment today with my "new" neurologist. Not much to report - he agreed with Baloh and gave me a bunch of samples to try for the migraines. He said that Topamax is the preferred medication because of little side effects and said I could try that first. I asked him if I could try it just around menstruation and he said one week before and a few days after. So I MAY try that which would be coming up in a week or so.

The bummer of the whole appointment was that there wasn't any new light shed upon the dizziness factor. I asked him about dizziness and migraines, and he said that yes, dizziness can accompany migraine but that mine seemed pretty excessive. He even said that me seeing Dr. Baloh definitely shines light on how excessive my dizziness must be. And he also said, unfortunuately, like all of us know, "dizziness is very hard to treat".

So I have a headache log and an appointment to see him back in 3 weeks to see how the medication went (Topamax). He also gave me samples of abortive medications - Imitrex (tablet & nasal spray), Amerge, Frova, and Axert for when a migraine actually hits. But that isn't really my problem so much. My main problem is dizziness/imbalance. Arggg
