Good, safe antibiotics for sinusitis?

Just wondering what is a good antibiotic for sinusitis? I get a couple infections a year-taken augmentin (currently on), ketek and a couple others. I do not want to take Levaquin or ketak anymore due to bad side effects( I have unexplanined muscle/joint pain already!) and my ENT wants to put me on something else instead of augmentin bc a ct scan showed i still have a "small" infection after 8 days of augmentin. UGH!! Any sugestions? I have been doing my nasal irrigation daily.

Augmentin is my standard right now. For years Sulfa also helped me. I have since developed an allergy to it. Zithromax is also good and I know several people who have it as a regular treatment, but I have an allergy to it also.

Re: Good, safe antibiotics for sinusitis?

Zythromax helped me, but my infection came back. I'm now on Avelox, which, when you read about it on the internet, scares the hell out of me. It's not very safe in my opinion. However I trust my doctor and I've only got 3 pills left. No more colored discharge while it previously was yellowish green. I have some ear pain but I think it's from the drainage. So it helped tremendously. Another safe antibiotic my doc used on me was clindamyacin. FYI,
I have been on 4 different antibiotics this whole summer and I feel that my body is telling me that all my good bacteria have been killed off. 1.) Yeast Infection... 2.) diarrhea 3.) generally just feeling ******.
Today I went to this all natural herbal/health food store in my town and I spoke to the woman there about acidophilus which is a pro-biotic my mom told me I should try (which I ended up buying and just took 2 capsules).
Unlike ANTIbiotics, PRObiotics maintain only your healthy digestive bacteria to protect against side effects of antibiotics and also strengthen your immune system. They've also been claimed to have strengthened defense against allergens. I read one review where a woman gives these capsules to her child, who barely ever gets ill, and when she does get a cold, its only 3 days maximum with mild symptoms. I'm so excited about this stuff. It's all natural and vegetarian and I feel like its going to make me feel so good.
In Japan it is customary in health care for a patient to take a probiotic such as acidophilus 2 weeks before, during, and 2 weeks after antibiotic treatment. They swear by it. Our health care system hasnt quite caught up to this practice yet, but it is crucial to maintain a healthy body while taking many antibiotics.
Just thought I'd spread the word about this stuff to people with allergies or chronic sinus infections or different mysterious problems. It's not good to kill your good bacteria and then just not replace them! that is all.
