Unhappy What The Heck??? Someone Please

Okay...Im 29 and mother to a 2 year old. After I had my son..I started expierencing dull chest pains...I went to to the cardiologist and my echo, and EKG came back normal. He said I did have 1 floppy valve, but nothing serious. I was a little hypertensive after the stress test though. The doctor put me on 200mg of labetalol, 25 mg of Triamterene, and was already on 50 MCG of synthroid. I would still get mild discomfort in my chest, but the doctor assured me it was muscular and not my heart. I took comfort in that. He did urge me to lose weight, and excersie. Since Jan of 2006 I have lost 100 lbs. I have 150 more to go. I tolerate the usual palpatations...little pauses in my chest it feels like..the it feels like my heart kick starts. I thought maybe that was due to the hypothyroidism, or the MVP. Yesterday...I got a stabbing pain in the middle of my chest. It hurt alot. My husband took me to the ER. They ran all the usual tests, and everything came back normal except the EKG. It said Acute QT. The doctor said that there was nothing wrong! He said that maybe it was due to the MVP (floppy valvue) I reserached a little today...and now Im freakin beacuse Im thinkin I have somesorta rythm disorder that is going to cause me to die soon. Are these palpatations I have been feeling for a year due to MVP? or to some serious rythym disorder that is going to kill me. My cardiologist cant see me for 2 weeks! Why didnt the ER doctor think it was a big deal? After reading things today on QT< i was concerned that the slight lightheadness i get when I get up is due to this. I thought maybe it was the MVP? FREAKING OUT!!!!! Can anyone help me?? please....

Almost Deperate...

Re: What The Heck??? Someone Please

Hi lina,

Your medication indicates you are being treated for arrhythmia possibly caused by hypothyroidism and high blood pressure is an issue as well as (edema?).

The echo result would visually show on the monitor any serious mitral valve insufficiently. So the MVP can almost be ruled out as a primary causation for any problems. I can't ******** any pain from MVP unless the regurgitation is serious enough to cause ischemia (lack of blood flow) of the heart. If that were the case, you would likely have shortness of breath as well.

Betalot as with coreg (my medication) is an alpha-beta blocker to slow the heart rate and interact for irregular beats and alpha relaxes vessels to reduce blood pressure.

Triamtrene reduce fluids that would help lower the heart's workload and aid or modify kidney function. The medication can deplete the potassium level causing arrythmia. Should get a blood profile to verify normal electrolyte levels, etc. Possible side effects can be slow, fast or uneven heart rate as well as lightheadedness, dizziness and headache.

The synthroid, I believe is to treat hypothyroidism.

QT waves has to do and is in a linear relationship to the heart rate and regularity.

The probability is high for a medication issue.

With these irregular heartbeats...what is the probability of falling over and dying? I have an appt on Friday and that seems like forever away. I know they are just going to set up another appointment for more tests in a week. I was put on the labetalol and Dyazide becuase of blood pressure issues...but it seems that they are causing other issues? Im just scared its deadly?? Thank you so much for responding...you are awesome...

Re: What The Heck??? Someone Please

Irregular heartbeats are very common. Frequently, it refers to an early beat or a skipped beat. Other than cause anxiety, it almost always is not a serious medical problem.

Very fast hearbeats can produce blood clots as the blood pools in the chamber for lack of time to adequately expel the blood from the chamber.

Very fast or very slow heartbeats are life threatening.

Depending on circumstances there may be a very slight probability that an irregular heartbeat if sustained can offset the normal effective timing causing a chaotic pattern of conduction of the electrical impulses that contract the heart muscles abnormally...if that situation, it may require a pacemaker, but I doubt that is your problem.

I just cant get over this feelin of fatigue and am so scared. So irregular heartbeats are the same is arrythmias? is that Abnormal QT i had on my EKG...its not that Long QT syndrome is it? Im sorry..Im all over the place...Im just really really scared
