Re: What are the real side effects of accutane?

ON a related note, just a random thought:

I've seen people who are on accutane and I think, "wow, that seems extreme. Their skin isn't that bad." In these instances, they're typical teens with typical mild acne. No scarring, no cysts, typical age-onset. Sometimes I think it's prescribed way too quickly/easily.

I wonder if those are the people who suffer the most side effects? I mean, if you had a perfectly healthy, normal heart, and started taking heart medication, wouldn't you have more negative side effects than the person who legitimately needs it and experiences the good that comes of the medication?

You may be assuming that because their face seems faily clear that they do not have bad acne... but you probably have not seen their back, stomach, chest, legs, or bottom.

You never know where the acne will hit hardest.

They may also be like me, on a medication that works (Doxycycline) but is only for the short term. I'm hoping to start accutane soon after a visit with my derm next week.

Re: What are the real side effects of accutane?

Mata, I was on Doxy for 6 months and looked TERRIFIC! However, towards the end I was getting yeast infections so I went off. And when I went off, all hell broke loose and I broke out. I also screwed up my body by killing off all the good bacteria in it. I would never do anti-B again for acne! Hence, accutane really was my last option because all the creams merely keep it at bay.
