need help, please read, need advice from people with these symptoms

for as long as i can rememebr have been ill, when i was very young i had glue ear and needed an operartion. but for the past 5 or so years i have been very ill and now its got to the point where i can barely do anything and honestly, im afraid of dying. its ruined my whole life and i cant go on. im 19.
im going to run throuigh all my problems n the hope that someone has experienced soemthing similar or has some idea of what is casuing i all...

- Severe post nasal drip which ive had for many many years, always used to get told by the doctor it was a sinus infection and given anti biotics which did nothing. now its been diagnosed as Post nasal drip but they dont know why.

- one of the worst problems is whitch my diestion. i have VERY BAD stromch noises, whn i get hungry, when and after i eat, as soon as i lay down, and just randomly, and i cant stop them. i also crave food and feel shakey and light headed if i dont eat. im almost always constipated, get lots of gas.

- used to get lots of ear infections, now my ears are blocked and i dont hear as well as i should and sometimes get pain

- had heavy periods throughout my teens, now im on the pill so theyve been ok, but i know im anemic becaeu im always exhausted, get cold easily and my hands and feet go purple and numb if i get very cold.

- over the past year or so ive developed anxiety. i think its from having all of these conditions. i had a sever attack yesterday when sat at a meeting in work, i felt sick and dizz as if i was going to faint, my heart was racing and i was thinkgin about running to the door the whole time.

sorry i know its long but im desperate for help, i dont know what else to do. i went to the doctor and asked to be tested for allergies but she said i should go to an ear nose and throat specialist so im waiting for that. it makes sense to me hat the problems are linked and i think i either have candida, hormone problems or food allergies. i have ceoliacs in my family so im also consideing that. or maybe some of its caused by the anemia or the post nasal drip. i tried the candida diet for a month and i felt a little better anfter a few days of diareah and feeling sick. but i dont no if this was beating the candida or just becasue i was eating healthy or something tht i had cut out.

any ideas? many thanks.

Re: need help, please read, need advice from people with these symptoms

If I was a doctor (and I'm not), my first big assumption is that you have allergies. In fact, I'd bet my last paycheck that you have severe allergies. The fact that you had "glue ear" as a child, is pretty evident of that. My son has severe, severe allergies so I'm pretty sure I recognize this. When you get to the ENT, they will (should) be able to help you with this. I cannot say enough about treating allergies with on of the prescription nasal sprays out there (Flonase, Rhinocort, etc). I had severe post nasal drip and this all but stopped it. My son also has a horrible post nasal drip but he is lazy about using the nose sprays so he doesn't control it as well. But he takes Zyrtec and Singulair and that keeps him pretty healthy with the allergies. I can tell you, that if he did not take these meds, he would be as sick as you describe of yourself. Allergies can make you very sick, listless, etc.

Your digestion issues can be caused by many things. I know that many young people--my daughter included who is 16, have poor diets. I'm not saying that is you, but MOST people do--especially here in the States. Lots of fast food or just "junk food" at home like Kraft Mac N Cheese etc. My DD, because she is on the run, eats too much. For the last few days, she has gotten diarrhea. It is from her poor diet. I see it everytime she goes overboard. Same thing happens to me but to a lesser degree. I just get lots of noise, pains, etc. I never used to at your age, but believe it or not, all of our diets were quite a bit healthier 20 years ago.

I'm not saying "this is it" just one thing for you to look at. You may not even realize it. HOWEVER, I think it is always a good idea to discuss with your doctor and have a celiac panel of bloodwork done. I did this for the same reasons that you are feeling however my tests were negative, I do not have celiac. Just a body that wants me to eat better.

As for the anemia, this is very easy to check. I suggest you have this test done with all the others. There is no sense saying you have anemia when you are not sure. I have anemia and I don't get the cold hands and feet. My friend gets extremely cold hands all the time and she does not have anemia. Go figure??? You can't just rely on your symptoms alone because those types of symptoms can also be related to thyroid issues, circulation issues, not moving around enough, etc.

Anxiety--YUCK--I have had this too. You know, especially when you are not feeling well, are tired, or stressed, this is the perfect time for anxiety to show itself. It could be that you are worried and this just is in your subconscious all the time and then sets off panic attacks.

Or, anxiety can be caused by physical problems. Celiac would cause it because you are suffering from gluten intolerance. Anemia can cause it because of the lack of oxygen to the cells and rapid heart rate that follows, and just not feeling well due to allergies can set something off.

My advice to you would be:

1. Visit the ENT and SERIOUSLY start on some allergy meds. I think that is going to be your first improvement. Get started on a nasal spray. It will take about a week to start working.

2. Go back to the GP and tell him you would like to be tested for anemia and celiac. This will be one blood test and he can do both. Also ask him to add in a ferritin test (this is part of an anemia workup but not all doctors do it). It would be interesting to see what your level of stored iron is.

I know it's hard to go in and demand things from your doctors, but you get to the point where you have to. As women, lots of doctors dismiss are feelings so I've found you sort of have to be pushy with them.

Re: need help, please read, need advice from people with these symptoms

thanks for your reply.
as for the allergies, i have the same thoughts, but i tried the nasal spray recently for 3 weeks and it made no difference at all.

im waiting for myENT appointment in a few weeks, and see what happens with that. then i will go back to my doctor depending on whats been said.
i know i need to go back to the doctor abut im scared of what may be found, ive just started a new job and i cant afford to be ill and not be able to work. im aslo TERRIFIED of needles and the last thing i want is a blood test, silly i know.

also youre right my diet is bad. this year i tried the candida diet for a month and it made my stomach slightly better, this may have just been becasue i was eating better. its just so hard to sick to a healthy diet in this day and age.

thankyou for the advice

May I suggest you see a Gastroenterologist. Tell him your symtoms. He probably will do colonoscopy and endoscopy. Also have him test you for Celiac Disease since someone in the family has it. So many allegies come from being gluten intolerent. I hope this helps. I'm 70+ and was just diagnosed with Celiac. My life has changed for the better since I have been gluten free. Also have your blood levels checked to see that you don't need vitamins. Good Luck.
