Question Is treatment always necessary?

I think I have cough variant asthma. On cool mornings, I have a mild, productive cough that starts every morning after I get out of bed and lasts for about 15-20 minutes. I get the same type of cough after aerobic exercise. Usually, it lasts for about 15 minutes or until I take a warm shower, but after particularly intense exercise, it can last up to an hour and get quite irritating. During exercise, I do get a little short of breath, but no more (I think) than most people. I never actually have difficulty breathing. The coughing bothers my boyfriend more than it bothers me, so I mentioned it to my doctor last time I consulted her about something else. She suspected asthma and prescribed a ventolin puffer to test the theory. Taking a couple of puffs before I get out of bed and before exercise does seem to greatly reduce the coughing. But given that it wasn't really bothering me in the first place, am I better off ignoring it and avoiding unnecessary medication?

if that is the case have you tired over the counter cough meds? for me they only make breathing worse. andother idea is trying allergy meds. might help lower cough, and its not a stariod. works sometiems for me. not as affective as inhaled meds.

Re: Is treatment always necessary?

Cough meds don't work.

I guess might as well try the allergy meds since it's spring and my hayfever is starting to kick in
