Post Gallbladder Problems

Hello Everyone,
I began having what I now believe were Gall Bladder attacks about 2 months ago. Remembering back I did have some bouts of vomiting up orange greasy fluid as well as very bitter yellow substances before the major pains started happening. My arms and sometimes my legs would tingle and I at first thought I may be becoming diabetic or running into blood sugar regulation problems. I made a Dr.'s appt. to get a full physical and exam of my body. I can also honestly admit I needed to lose a good 20 lbs. and that my diet wasn't exactly the best in the world. But before that appt. came, I had my first "attack". At first I started feeling lightheaded and faint, then my chest would start getting hard pressure, and finally my heart beat would begin to skyrocket.
The first visit to the ER had them telling me I was "stressed" and that it was anxiety. Gave me a script for Ativan and sent me on the way. Two weeks later, after a night of beer, I was back in the ER but this time he felt it may be GERD or gastritis so I was given scripts for Ranitidine (Zantac) and Promethazine and told to stay on a bland diet. Those seemed to help out quite a bit as long as I took them as scheduled. My Dr.'s visit confirmed that I had GERD and was given samples for Protoxin to accompany my Ranitidine. I was also scheduled for an Ultrasound on my GB that next day and told to remain on my bland diet for the long haul. My US was negative for Gallstones but the 2nd HIDA scan showed an ejection fraction of only 6%. GB had to come out. So preparations were made to have it removed laproscopically and it was about 2 weeks ago.
Since the removal about 4 days after I still suffered from the same symptoms. Obviously that wasn't the only thing wrong and my GERD remains. I'm hoping that it's just my body adjusting to no GB and once it comes around and with the lifestyle changes I've made coupled with weightloss (I've now lost over 15 lbs.) and meds that my GERD symptoms will reduce greatly. It scares me because at night it sometimes wakes me up as I feel I can't breathe. This comes and goes and the chest pressure around my sternum does as well. I steer very clear of any "triggers" but I don't want this to start interfering drastically with my job. My GF bless her heart has been great as have my parents but is there ever going to be a light at the end of the tunnel? I sympathize with everyone here because I now believe no one can understand these pains unless they've experienced them themselves, including Dr.'s! Does this story relate with anyone or am I just going crazy? Thanks for your input.

Re: Post Gallbladder Problems

Hi: As I had mentioned on your other post I too had my gallbladder removed on Tuesday. I had no gallstones but a dysfunctioning gallbladder. Yes, Gerd can cause a myriad of symptoms and can make you want to go crazy especially when your Gastro doctor says it is in your head. I have been suffering with this disease for about one year. In fact, in March/April it gave me gerd induced Asthma and I was in pretty bad shape. All I can say is that it takes time and you have to be vigilent about your diet and you have to take some kind of PPI. I took Nexium for months but to no avail as I had mentioned in the other post, I am on prescription Prilosec. It seems as if my gerd is coming back now that I had my gallbladder removed, last night I had lots of horrible chest pain. A lady suggested me to give acupucture a try and I just might try. Unfortunately, the treatment isn't covered under my insurance and have already spent lots of money on this dreaded disease. Let me know how you are doing and what medication you are taking...Good luck...

Re: Post Gallbladder Problems

Hey there,
My meds are (and I follow this schedule very strickly) as follows:

150mg Ranitidine (Zantac) about 9:00AM
30-35 mins. later eat a fairly light breakfast - cereal or oatmeal
about 1:30PM 40mg Protonix (30 mins. before lunch)
then eat a decent sized lunch - usually my usual turkey Subway sandwich
another Ranitidine when I get home from work about 5:30/6PM
30-35 mins. later eat a lighter decent dinner - usually Chicken N. Soup
about 10:30 another Protonix
30-35 mins. later eat something else like yogurt or grapes, an apple.

Like I said, in no way am I cured but I've found that I'm feeling better a little each day and sticking to my meds schedule is key. I also drink tons of water through the day and sometimes sneak in another light bland meal, especially when I feel the hunger pains. I think I produce way too much acid and keeping something in there helps to calm the reflux but make sure it's bland so it doesn't have to struggle to digest.
