Can someone with GERD guide me

For the past year I thought I was having lung problems. I had pneumonia in May and have had 3 chest X rays and 2 CT scans. Lungs/chest are clear. I have always had GERD but it seems to have gotten worse over the past year.

I cannot take ANY acid blocker...tried nexium, aphihex, pepcid....when I take them in the morning by 1:00 - 2:00 I have serious pain on the left side of my stomach under my left rib cage. If I dont take any PPI, I get the lump in my throat and have burning in my stomach.

I just dont know where to turn at this point. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Can someone with GERD guide me

Hi SSimon,
have you tried taking anything natural? I have alot of problems taking ppIs & I have to take them every other day sometimes. I get lots of problems with my chest, feeling breathless always feeling like its congested too. I also feel like I have a cold or flu like symptoms at times. I use slipperyelm, I dont know if you have heard of it, it sounds like a witches brew but it seems to line the stomach a bit. I got mine at health food shop, it comes in tablets & powder. Also I try apple cider vinger with honey & boiled water. I dont know if thats any good for you but its worth a try, good luck let me know how you get on Cheryl.

I hope you aren't drinking or smoking. Cut that out, and the spicy food.
Also try some mastic gum tablets -- 2 500 mg tabs 2x daily. Plus, 2 tablets of DGL licorice before each meal.

Re: Can someone with GERD guide me

Hello,
I also have been on ppi's for the past 3 years and didnt realise they could cause these problems. Always have dull ache in left side and problems breathing. Even walking small distances now makes me feel weak. Could it be the medication. Also suffer from rapid heart beat and palpitations.
