Arrow I've finally figured out what's causing my cystic acne!

After all these years (I'm 39 btw), I 've figured it out. It's dairy products - mostly milk or ice cream. I have been trying to eat clean and do low-carb, but a few days ago I splurged and had some fried ice cream at a Mexican restaurant, then had some milk later on. Guess what happened? BAM! Had an eruption. And my skin had been super-clear for months - ever since I gave up all the bad stuff. That's it. No more dairy for me. I never would have guessed that's what was causing it, but now I know. I was allergic to milk as a baby, and now I wonder if there is a connection.

This might not pertain to everybody, but some of you - it just might.

Just wanted to share.

Re: I've finally figured out what's causing my cystic acne!

I wanted to bump this up and say I too gave up drinking milk and eating ice-cream about two weeks ago to see if it would make a difference to my skin...and it has indeed. I haven't gotten cystic acne for a couple of years, thanks to acupuncture, but sometimes, more around my period time, I get some pimples. I started breaking out more though, in unusual places, like my chin and forehead, which are not usual for me. I thought it was due to the high humidity and heat of the summer in Florida, but since I've stopped drinking milk and eating ice-cream those areas have cleared up significantly.

There is evidence to the milk-acne connection. Just do an online search with those two words and you'll see there has been research studies that found 22% more acne in those who drank a certain amount of milk (3 cups?) per week compared to those who drank a lot less. Anyway, the information is on the net. I think it's best for our health to cut down on milk consumption and ice-cream is definitely not good for us. The study found milk has hormones from the cow which cause oil production in the skin.

I'm not sure what you want to know. (By the way....my high school English teacher would've killed me for using a sentence as long as yours. Ha!) But, seriously, what's going on with you? My problem was cystic acne. Meaning - not just a regular little pimple. A hard-as-a-rock cyst. Usually on my chin or jawline. You can find all the help and support you need right here on these boards.

And, to anyone else reading this....I've been reading a lot about this dairy thing. (I wish I would've had the internet back when I was 20! Wow. So much to learn.) Anyway....there's lots of things that people can be sensitive to. Wheat. Sugar. Dairy products. Maybe you should try eliminating certain things from your diet to see if anything works for you. When I was in my early 20s, all I ever heard was chocolate and Sun-Drops (that's a drink here in the South - in the ballpark of a Mountain Dew, but WAY better) and greasy foods. I eliminated that junk and it never worked for me. I spent most of my 20s on tetracycline products - which helped until I built a tolerance to it. No one ever mentioned dairy products. No one. So, I'm hoping that I can, at least, help one person here. Acne causes suffering in more ways than one. Believe me, I know. We all want to be beautiful, don't we? When you don't look good to yourself, then you don't feel good on the inside either.
