Question question regarding ryr to lovastatin

I have been on Baycol, Zocor, and Lipitor will bad side effects on each. I now take 600mg ryr (1 capsule) with no bad effects and my tc dropped 20 pts in one month. Other levels dropped also. My doctor says I should take lovastatin since it is the same and cheaper then the ryr. He prescribed 20mg. is this equilivant to 600mg ryr? Does anyone know what the amount of 600mg of ryr is equal to in lovastatin? Thanks for an answer.

Re: question regarding ryr to lovastatin

No Hindy, it certainly is not the same equivalent dose. There is a very lengthy thread on this board where you can find all you need to know. Its the second most read thread. Do a sort on the view column.

Re: question regarding ryr to lovastatin

Hindy, keep in mind that "Lovastatin" (a.k.a. Mevacor) the prescription drug manufactured by Merck is not the naturally occuring variety. It is man made in a laboratory and comes with the known side effects. However RYR has been in existecne for over 1,000 years and has no where near any of these known side effects.

Re: question regarding ryr to lovastatin

Thanks for the replies. I wonder why the doctor was so insistant that I switch to lovastatin when I had no side effects with the ryr and my tc went from 250 to 230 in one month. I though that was really good! Maybe he felt uncomfortable with not being able to dose accurately?

Re: question regarding ryr to lovastatin

After seeing this question I had to write. Last year I was on Lovastain for 5 months. On the 5th month the leg pain on my right side started. It was so unbearable I couldnt even walk. I suffered for 10 months with the pain. Believe me I do not wish this on anyone. The pain was on my right side from the hip down to the ankle. I immediately took myself off lovastain. My doctor did not believe me that I would experience this side effect since I was only on 20mg. Since then I have not gone back to him. I have gone back to a different doctor and my readings are not good. But I refuse to go on anything since this horrible experience with pain. When you take an very active lady to someone who couldnt even walk around your home due to a pill I will have to suffer the bad results.
